Job Summary

The Administrative Technologies department is seeking a Lead Integration Engineer. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE),12-month, professional faculty position.
University Information & Technology (UIT) is a mission-driven, dynamic IT organization leading digital transformation at Oregon State University to achieve the university's ambitious goals of educating more students, making breakthrough discoveries in research, and expanding the university's outreach and service to Oregon and the world. UIT sets IT strategies for all OSU organizations and encompasses the central organization that manages IT operations for the university, including its three campuses and services that reach students worldwide.
This position is in the Administrative Technologies department which is part of the Technical and Solutions Architecture (TSA) unit within Oregon State University's University Information & (UIT) division, this position shares and supports the University's mission by assisting the University to extend all programs, teachings, research and communication throughout the world. The services provided by UIT-TSA units, including Academic Technologies, Administrative Technologies, Infrastructure, and Network & Telecom Services, assist the University community by facilitating transmission of knowledge and expertise to its members, thereby enhancing their ability to be productive, valued, and esteemed members of the University community, serving the State of Oregon. Services are provided to students, faculty, and staff for curricular, research, intellectual, and administrative activities and needs, as well as to the wider Oregon higher education and government community. There are approximately 175 faculty and classified employees in UIT, as well as 150 FTE student positions. UIT administers a total budget of $35 million.
Reporting to an Associate Director of Administrative Technologies, the Lead Integration Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting an enterprise-wide integrations platform and data interfaces for the university's application ecosystem, including on-premise, custom written, and cloud-based applications.
In this role they will use application native integration tools (e.g. Enterprise Interface Builder and Workday Studio) and real-time Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to keep data in-sync between enterprise applications and ensure data integrity throughout those systems. serves on the leadership team for Administrative Technologies and provides critical leadership on application and data architectures, business processes, and internal coordination on the operational aspects of all data integration services. This position has direct responsibility for setting a technical vision and ensuring implementation of that vision across all aspects of the application integrations architecture, including system to system data integrations, data management within the Operational Data Store, and data migrations.
The Senior Lead Integration Engineer works with the Administrative Technologies Director, integrations team, Chief Data Officer, and data team to effectively implement and consistently utilize approved data definitions, data models and data relationships to deliver quality application integrations and APIs. They provide vision, leadership and planning to assure that services are effectively and appropriately delivered to meet the diverse and dynamic needs of Oregon State University.
The scope of this position includes the supporting application and data integrations in the ERP suite (i.e., Ellucian Banner, Workday, Apigee APIs, Data Platform (Microsoft Fabric), Automic Workload Automation, and the Data Integration Tool Set). Additionally, the Senior Lead Integration Engineer will define the strategies and architecture for a focused team of application developers and analysts in the creation of new integrations for new products and services using existing or new technologies and applications, utilizing formalized application development methodologies and structured project management methodologies and tools. These outcomes are to enable data migration/conversion, ERP data integrations, and/or working with vendor connectors between major systems. The incumbent will work with other developers, administrators, and users to define the strategy and architecture to enable the processes of analysis, design, coding and testing to provide appropriate enhancements and maintenance for bulk and transactional data integrations (API's).

Key Responsibilities

25% Integration Strategy and Enterprise Integrations Framework:
  • This individual will apply communication, relationship building, problem-solving skills and knowledge of best practices in applications and API integrations development methodology and IT project management to guide their development colleagues on issues related to the design, development, deployment, integration, testing, quality assurance/quality control, and support of new business functionality which may be hosted locally or purchased as software as a service
  • In coordination with the Enterprise Architect, Office of Information Security, and UIT leadership identify overall technical direction/vision and help define application integration and API and integration standards to ensure robust, reliable, and technologically advanced IT integrations management as appropriate to the teaching and learning, research, and extension missions of Oregon State University.
  • Serve as the Administrative Technologies representative on the Enterprise Architecture Review Board and advisor regarding the development of new enterprise business application integrations frameworks (e.g., mobile application framework) for OSU. Works in
  • Develop operational guidelines, in coordination with operational Directors, for integration services and technical capabilities provided by UIT integrations team and ensure effective procedures are in place for critical aspects of work, including project planning and implementation, deploying, administering, and supporting complex application integration and API services that move data between essential University systems.
  • Research new technologies and assist with defining, configuring, and implementing enterprise-class integration services.
  • Develop and maintain procedural and technical documentation in alignment with enterprise architecture documentation standards.
  • Participate in both short-term and long-range planning for enterprise-wide integrations
55% Integration Development:
  • Maintains knowledge of core software offerings, particularly those APIs and systems that are essential for seamless communications
  • Interviewing customers to determine requirements, designing implementation strategies consistent with the overall project plans, writing and modifying job control programs for current and new integrations.
  • Design, automate and simplify system to system integration processes. Develop processes via tools like Workday, Apigee, Boomi/Talend, PL/SQL, SQL, Web Services and others to integrate data from system to system
  • Develop and maintain secure and reliable system integration solutions
  • Work closely with analyst programmers and OSU IT professionals and stakeholders to ensure that all systems are integrated to meet business requirements.
  • Provides high quality and timely integration support, including responding to incident/ problem tickets and troubleshooting errors and issues with university integration systems.
  • Create and manage data flows between systems and applications
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Monitor system performance and modify as needed
  • Provide support for integration-related tasks
  • Follows OSU IT Change Management processes and implements quality improvement processes in integrations services and application delivery management.
  • Ensure the provision of day-to-day support and maintenance, including addressing stability, performance, business continuity/disaster recovery, and appropriate protection and security of the data underlying these enterprise services.
10% Team Leadership:
  • Orient and assist in onboarding new employees into the Integrations Team
  • Work with the Administrative Technologies Director to discuss priorities and assign or reassign tasks to accomplish work in the team in order to be more effective and efficient.
  • Provides leadership, technical direction, coordination, education, training, and technical support for these implementation and utilization of integration hub and SaaS application native integrations.
  • Give directions, coaching and provide technical leadership to the integrations team concerning work procedures, and review of integrations work to ensure conformance to UIT standards
  • Provide informal assessment of team members to the Administrative Technologies director.
  • Creates technical plans to respond to technological change (such as more robust system-to-system data models, a move to cloud services, etc.) to meet University IT needs.
  • Exhibit successful leadership in implementing large scale technology projects that support the University's goals for teaching and student learning, research, extension and administrative process modernization
  • Provide leadership to other data integration staff assigned to projects in implementing the technology vision and meeting project deliverables.
10% Professional Development:
  • Maintains professional currency through active engagement in professional conferences and on/off campus training.
  • Participates in and contributes actively to state, regional and national professional organizations.
  • Develops professional development plans and supports the professional development needs of the staff.

What You Will Need
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant area or similar qualification or equivalent knowledge and skills developed through professional experience.
  • Eight years of IT experience with an emphasis on engineering and implementing application and data integrations including design, development, testing and deployment of integrations
  • Minimum of five years of experience in administrative project planning and management; large systems design, implementation and production processing; customer problem resolution and troubleshooting; and systems design and analysis, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Experience working with relational database management systems, and with complex ERP level systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
