Orion Plant Services is Hiring a Renewable Refinery Safety Manager Near Reno, NV

SAFETY MANAGER – REFINERY OPERATIONS

We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead the renewable refinery site safety program as the facility transitions to new products, at our client facility located near Reno, Nevada.

The Safety Manager is responsible for reducing the risk of workplace injuries and ensure internal compliance with relevant local, state, and federal safety regulations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conducts regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Investigates accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and develop strategies for prevention.
  • Maintains accurate records of safety incidents, including report writing and documentation.
  • Provides safety training to employees on topics such as hazard recognition, emergency response, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborates with management and employees to promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement.
  • Stays up to date with industry best practices and changes in safety regulations.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, or combination of post-secondary education and related industry safety experience.
  • Proven experience as a Safety Manager or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and training purposes.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in a start-up, greenfield or brownfield environment is helpful.
  • Refinery, chemical industry, or experience in a continuous process environment is helpful.
  • Should have ability to navigate the facility operations, including ability to work at heights, walk reasonable distances, and lift occasional weights.
  • Must be willing to work flexible schedules as needed, including nights and/or weekends as job duties demand.
  • OSHA certification or CSP designation preferred.
  • Bilingual communication skills a plus (English/Spanish).
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail is a valued trait.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Ensures compliance with relevant state, federal, and local regulations.

· Assists with new employee safety orientation and training.

· Audits workplace for potential risks and compliance issues.

· Investigates and documents on-site accidents or complaints.

· Helps develop strategies for process improvement.

· Implements injury-reduction strategies.

· Supports management team with company safety initiatives.

· Helps maintain clean and safe plant/refinery areas. Provides injury-free work environment for employees, staff, contractors, and visitors through engagement, JHAs, training programs, good work practices, company standards, and proactive elimination of exposures. Continually improves safety record by addressing both physical and safety issues and employee safety attitudes. Maintains and improves housekeeping in all areas.
