Position Summary:

Performs general patient care such as, hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and increased/constant observation in a basic role with the guidance and mentoring of the Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities:

Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment and demonstrated competency through Orlando Health.
Performs advanced skills after achievement of demonstrated competencies such as: nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal; wound irrigation; complex dressing change without packing of wounds; maintenance of enteral tube feeding (Dobhoff, Nasogastric, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy); and tracheostomy care.
Performs increase or continuous visual observation for Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients as assigned.
Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team.
Utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist with change of staff or transfer of care as part of handoff for Baker Act,
behavioral health, and suicide risk patients.
Assures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.
Follows standard precautions. Adheres to Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures.
Communicates appropriate information regarding the patients condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the healthcare team.
Participates in handoff report and purposeful hourly rounding on patients.
Documents information according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines.
Transports and assists patientsthrough the admission and discharge process. Transports Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients to diagnostic testing and procedures.

Qualifications:

Education/Training
Nursing student currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program at a college or university.
Must have completed a minimum of one semester of nursing clinical rotations.
Proof of continued enrollment in accredited pre-licensure, professional nursing program with no break in enrollment to exceed
one year.

Licensure/Certification
Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
