GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for duties related to a medical receptionist. This includes but is not limited to checking patients in and out for appointments, updating demographics and insurance information, reviewing eligibility as well as ensuring appropriate paperwork is filled out for each appointment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Business Team Manager
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None
HOURS/SHIFTS: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1) Greets patients professionally both in person and on the phone.
2) Check patient in and out for appointments.
3) Ensure that appropriate forms are signed by patients.
4) Update patient demographics and insurance.
5) Collect copays and balances.
6) Assist patients who walk with any questions they may have.
7) Manage self-scheduled appointments.
8) Work department reports daily.
9) Attend meetings as required.
The job holder must demonstrate competencies applicable to the job position.
EDUCATION: High School Diploma
EXPERIENCE: Prefer a minimum experience of 2 years working in a medical office. Knowledge of insurance is required.
KNOWLEDGE:
1) Knowledge of policies and procedures related to operations of a medical receptionist.
2) Knowledge of medical insurance.
3) Knowledge of customer service principles and techniques.
4) Knowledge of how to operate telephone equipment.
5) NextGen experience preferred.
SKILLS:
1) Skill in customer service by pleasantly dealing with whoever is on the phone or in the office whether it be the patient, visitor, or a co-worker.
2) Skill in operating a computer and fax/copy machine.
3) Skill in answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner and using a multi-line telephone system.
4) Skill in time management.
ABILITY:
1) Ability to adapt to constant changes.
2) Ability to work cooperatively with other members of the business team as well as other members of the OSC staff.
3) Ability to respond to stressful/emergency situations in a calm and effective manner.
4) Ability to multi-task.
5) Ability to read, understand, and follow oral, and written instructions.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an office environment. Involves frequent face to face encounters with patients, visitors and other office team members. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Minimal exposure to communicable diseases.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to sit up to 8 hours/day. Must be able to handle emergency situations and upset customers in a professional manner. Work may require hand dexterity for telephone and office machine operations, as well as using calculator and computer keyboard.
