Public Affairs Officer
Job Duties (Description of specific duties in a typical workday for this position):

Possesses knowledge of organizational planning, risk management, and program analysis with the ability to turn programmatic wins into STRATCOM. Defines and document STRATCOM and public relations processes into standard operating procedures or other written procedures. Assures integrated and coordinated short-term, mid-term, and long-range planning on projects and tasks. Initiates, develops, revises, recommends, and implements STRATCOM policies, plans, procedures, and directives. Collaborates internally and externally and provides advice and support to the organization leadership, staff, and program managers on any assigned programs/projects for stakeholder engagements, briefings, reports, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute the strategic communications (STRATCOM) strategy for the Project Director Sensor-Aerial Intelligence (PD SAI)
  • Prepare written communications to support a technical organization.
  • Write articles, from scratch, for both internal and external publication
  • Write award text, from scratch, for various honorary and award nominations
  • Photograph key events to create graphics for publication
  • Perform communication activities, which include press releases, communication plans, key talking points for senior leadership, reports, brochures, and web content.
  • Support the development of marketing materials and collateral items, editing and file preparation for production, and website content management.
  • Ensure integrated and consistent STRATCOM is communicated to appropriate users across multiple channels.
  • Manage PD SAI public release process
  • Translate technical information into plain language for customers and the public, using editorial judgement to strategically develop messages and tailor materials for various audiences.
  • Analyze and identify current and future communication needs and priorities and provide input into the development and implementation of annual and long-range communications plans for assigned programs.
  • Develop and maintain content for external communications platforms, including public-facing websites, such as the PEO IEW&S website, ASA(ALT) website, Army website, and various social media accounts.
  • Assist with the development of materials such as PowerPoint presentations, research summaries, articles to major Department of Defense (DoD) publications, and internal showcase articles.
  • Provide editorial and creative support to products created by PD SAI and associated sub-organizations for public release.
  • Develop and contribute to internal Microsoft SharePoint content, Standard Operating Procedures, and templates.
  • Translate technical and scientific information into engaging articles for less-technically savvy audiences, with the assistance of subject matter experts within PD SAI.
  • Edit and convey consistent messaging across a variety of platforms.
  • Prepare written reports and memorandums in accordance with U.S. Army and DoD regulations.

Requirements (Years of experience, Education, Certifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, or related field
  • 5 years relevant experience
  • Active DoD SECRET clearance
  • Photography experience with DSLR digital cameras
  • Experience updating social media posts for large organizations
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
  • Experience creating and updating web publications
  • Experience creating and submitting high level DoD awards
