Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) is responsible for the planning and delivery of educational programming that meets the needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan for and deliver educational programming for students who are deaf and hard of hearing in collaboration with other educators which includes social-emotional development, academic skills, vocational skills and independent living
Participate in individualized education plans (IEP), including developing goals and progress monitoring of DHH goals in collaboration with caregivers, agencies and other teachers.
Oversee delivery of any interpreting services outlined in IEPs
Work in collaboration with the AEA Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Connect families with resources to support the communication development of the student.
Maintain confidentiality
Regular attendance required
Other duties as assigned
PREPARATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
Possess a valid Iowa teaching license with Birth-21 Deaf and Hard of Hearing endorsement or willingness to obtain a conditional license
Effective in oral, written and sign language communication, knowledge of American Sign Language
Assist with classroom modifications when appropriate, as determined by the IEP, educational team, or in consultation with other support staff, including AEA
Provide sign language instruction in classes
Must be licensed by the Iowa Department of Public Health
Must possess a valid Iowa Driver’s License
