Position Description

In this position as Communications Coordinator, you will play a vital role in amplifying Our Children Oregon's mission and impact. You'll manage our social media presence across Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, creating engaging content and analyzing its performance. Your creative skills will be put to use in designing graphics and crafting compelling stories that resonate with our audience. You'll also support our email communications and help build relationships with media partners.

Beyond digital outreach, you'll collaborate closely with our Policy & Advocacy team, contributing to legislative efforts by writing testimony, tracking bills, and supporting lobbying activities for the Children's Agenda. You'll engage directly with partners, attend coalition meetings, and participate in program planning. Your role will also involve supporting the development team with events and assisting in the creation of policy materials for legislative priorities.

This dynamic position offers the opportunity to work across various aspects of our organization, from communications and policy to partner engagement and event planning. You'll be an integral part of our team, contributing to our efforts to ensure every child in Oregon is seen, nurtured, and valued.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage our social media channels, schedules for content, and analytics reports.
  • Create graphics for posts & stories, and monitor social media comments & community activity.
  • Support/manage email sends and Communications projects & strategies; build relationships.
  • Participate in program planning for Policy & Advocacy, attend policy team & coalition meetings, write testimony, and track & lobby for legislation on the Children’s Agenda.
  • Support Policy team for legislative days/legislator meetings, and attend/take notes at partner meetings.
  • Support Development with materials and activities for in-person events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Graduate – OR - A Bachelor's degree in Communications and/or Public Policy/Educational Advocacy, or related field.
  • 1-3 years Communications experience: writing, social media, composing business newsletters and/or
  • 1-3 years familiarity with Oregon’s legislative landscape, policy, advocacy; and/or
  • 1-3 years of experience with Canva or Photoshop.
  • Any appropriate and effective combination of any of the above.
  • Resides in Oregon, within a reasonable commuting distance of zip code 97232 to ensure ability to attend onsite meetings up to three days a week.
  • Consistent access to transportation to be able to frequently attend onsite meetings and community events, as well as to pick up necessary supplies for meetings and events.
  • Consistent access to a reasonably distraction free workspace, reliable smart phone/mobile device, and reliable access to private and secure high-speed internet.
  • Technologically savvy, with strong computer skills and the ability to embrace and adapt to changes to work-related technology.
  • Good working knowledge of the primary Google business, productivity and collaboration tools/software.
  • Good working knowledge of the primary Microsoft Office programs.

Additional Qualifications Desired

  • Video editing skills
  • Public Relations experience
  • Enjoys being part of a small team and pitching in as required.
  • Valid driver license.

Pay and Benefits

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with generous benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401k (4% match), life insurance and progressive, life affirming holiday, wellness and vacation leave time.
