Position Title: Housing Coordinator (PSH)
Our Saviour’s Community Services (OSCS) provides dignified shelter and housing for single adults, and basic education classes to adult English language learners in the Phillips Community of South Minneapolis. OSCS takes its name from Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, which founded our programs in the early 1980s. In 2004, we became a legally and financially independent nonprofit. Our Saviour’s Housing operates a permanent supportive housing program for single adults in Hennepin County. The referrals are from Hennepin County’s Coordinated Entry System. The program aims to maintain housing for 100 single adults or couples that are 18 . The program finds housing in the community or uses our onsite housing buildings to house 10-12 participants. The program offers case management via housing support or housing stabilization. The participants have access to transportation provided by case managers and to our onsite food shelf.

This Role: The Housing Specialist Position is responsible for establishing and maintaining contact and working relationships with local landlords to place Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) residents into appropriate fair market rental housing in the community with which the OSCS Housing program works. The position will welcome new clients into the OSCS Housing program, assess strengths and barriers affecting housing choices, place clients into housing, and transition newly housed persons to regular case management, provided by others. The PSH Program works with participants enrolled in Housing Support and Housing Stabilization Services.

This position is non-exempt, part-time/full-time, regularly scheduled between 24-40 hours per week, and reports to the Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) Program Manager. This position is a hybrid position that requires being onsite three days a week.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain working relationships with landlords who will serve our clientele.
  • Educate housing property owners about the Housing Support program to create a continuing pool of housing options.
  • Network with other agencies to support participant access to housing.
  • Develop housing options for participants’ access to housing.
  • Request new referrals for the housing support program through various sources such as Hennepin County processes.
  • Complete a thorough Housing Support intake assessment with each new housing candidate.
  • Build a relationship with each new client to support their housing search. Schedule showings, transport clients to those showings, and assist in completing all necessary application materials for move-ins and move-outs.
  • Regularly teach or schedule tenant training for all participants who have not had training or need refresher classes.
  • Document and maintain regular Housing Support and Housing Stabilization case notes, forms, and other documentation on participant interactions.
  • Complete housing assessments for Housing Stabilization Services or Housing Support for OSCS clients and other housing support programs.
  • Work cooperatively with PSH Case Managers to support the healthy transition of the client to ongoing case management will be provided.
  • May carry a modest caseload of clients, depending on the program's needs.
  • Work with program leadership to seek out appropriate community committee and provider relationships to build on behalf of OSH.
  • Attend weekly and monthly team meetings.
  • Assist with training and onboarding of new staff.
  • Serve as a full and active member of the OSH Team.
  • Additional duties or projects as assigned during downtime.
  • Update spreadsheets and enter data into case management software such as CaseFlow and HMIS.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated cultural fluency and commitment to diversity.

  • Familiarity with and comfortable using Harm Reduction and Housing First principles.
  • Able to communicate effectively in writing, by phone, and in person
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Takes initiative, works well independently and collaboratively
  • Computer skills: Can use Google suite, MS suite, Emails, IMS, and other tech programs to complete the job.
  • Ability and willingness to learn about homelessness and factors impacting our participants.
  • Ability to move around, drive to client locations, work on a desk and in front of a computer, sit for long periods, use keyboard and mouse, and perform repetitive motions such as typing, sorting, pinching, and other office routines.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand people using one or more of Spanish, Somali, Arabic, Ukrainian, Russian, and Farsi/Persian languages (preferred but not required).
 

Experience and Qualification Requirements:

  • Related property management experience or housing navigation.
  • Knowledge of general housing rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of rental agreements and ability to carry out policies and guidelines to tenants.
  • Experience working with people experiencing homeless and marginalized populations.
  • Demonstrate and maintains a good driving record, a reliable vehicle and insurance, and a valid driver’s license
 

Job Type: Full-time/part-time, non-exempt

Pay Rate: [$18 to $21], hourly
