Outdoor Living Supply is Hiring a National Safety Manager Near Franklin, TN

Role Summary: Develops and implements occupational health and safety programs meant to ensure the wellbeing of employees and protect the company. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state regulations & standards, including OSHA, DOT, MSHA. Documents and investigates accidents or injuries, provides records or evidence as required during lawsuits or legal proceedings, and implements corrective measures meant to reduce future risk. Develops, delivers, and tracks participation in health- and safety-related training.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create, implement and administer workplace health and safety plans, procedures and programs
  • Ownership and oversight of required and selected initiatives and programs to ensure compliance and increase awareness, such as IIPP, Safety Committee, Powered Industrial Truck, Respiratory Protection, Heat Illness Prevention, Personal Protective Equipment
  • Manage training programs to educate and train employees on workplace safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, equipment, and materials
  • Coordinate and execute regular inspections of facilities nationwide to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented
  • Oversee inspection of equipment
  • Conduct accident prevention training and health and safety trainings on a regular basis
  • Raise awareness and safety actions related to diverse health effects, illnesses, and accidents associated with specific job functions; partnering with company leadership
  • Provide information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to communicate potential safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions
  • Responsible for preparing and submitting reports including, but not limited to required accident reports, OSHA logs, Sustainability reporting, EPA and BLS
  • Represent the organization at conferences, meetings and regulatory hearings
  • Demonstrate a Continuous Improvement mindset through participation in events and activities that lead to financial gain, time savings, and/or waste reduction for the business
  • Recruit and train safety committee (steering committee) members
  • Travel to work locations required by car or airplane, roughly 10%

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health or related field required
  • 3 years safety experience in an industrial/distribution, multi-state and multi-site environment required
  • Deep knowledge of OSHA, calOSHA, DOT, MSHA regulations, hazard identification and corrections, environmental regulations required
  • CPR, AED and First Aid Certification is required
  • Current OSHA General Industry Certification is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other related software platforms required
  • Experience in Workers’ Compensation, human behavior and physical attributes related to job capabilities strongly preferred
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships
  • Ability to travel by car or airplane is required

  • Continuously required to talk, see and hear
  • Requires communicating to employees, contractors and visitors
  • Frequent walking, sitting, standing
  • Occasional squatting, lifting, pushing, pulling and climbing
  • Must be able to function safely around heavy operating equipment
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Exposure to the elements when working at various locations onsite when conducting onsite visits & safety inspections, including exposure to heat, cold, rain and wind
  • Yard environments may involve uneven terrain, dust, and noise from machinery
  • Personal protective equipment such as safety vests, eye protection and gloves must be worn as required

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full-time position generally following business hours, with availability during extended hours to support multiple time-zones and weekend store hours.
