Job Summary­­­­­­_____________________________________________________________ The Lead Teaching Artist will provide key artistic support to the projects and teaching artists. The position will work closely with participants, community partners, teaching artists and Teaching Artist Coordinator.

Roles & Responsibilities_____________________________________________________________

  • As part of a team, help develop and provide lead artistic support for two songwriting residency projects:
    • My Melody: a project for older adults experiencing early stage dementia and their carepartners. Work will include designing a handbook for teaching artists based on other Overture Center residencies, creating a residency plan and supporting artistic professional development for teaching artists for the project. Additionally, will serve as lead facilitator for a group residency pilot, and provide artistic support to teaching artists as needed such as musical/lyrical support on a song, assisting with recording or playlist creation.
    • Lullaby Project: a project for new and expectant parents and caregivers. Work will include updating residency materials as needed and supporting artistic professional development for teaching artists for the project. Additionally, will serve as artistic lead support for sessions as needed such as providing musical/lyrical support or assisting with recording or lead sheets.
  • Serves as music director for select lullabies at the Lullaby Project performances at Kids in the Rotunda.
  • Provides back up artistic support at songwriting sessions
  • Provides a nurturing and inclusive workshop environment where all participants can feel welcome, valued and supported.
  • Embraces and participates in the advancement of the JEDI (justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion) mission and vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications____________________________________________________________________The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education & Experience:

  • Experience as a songwriter is required. Experience training, teaching and working with diverse adult learners is preferred. Work in memory care or a social service agency a bonus.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Fluent in songwriting or music composition.
  • Fluent in melodic creation and transcribing or recording songs.
  • Able to help lyric writers distill their message or ideas and provide constructive feedback in a supportive manner.
  • Able to harmonize melodies quickly and effectively.
  • Exhibit passion and commitment about helping meet the goals of the project.
  • Demonstrate commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the arts.
  • Proficient on at least one musical instrument and able to provide instrument for sessions.

  • Must be able to operate a computer, telephone, and musical instrument.
  • Ability to perform music for an hour at a time.
  • Required to work both onsite and virtually.
