Job Description
Job Title: Environmental Specialist

SUMMARY
The Environmental Specialist role is an hourly role reporting to the EHS Leader. This position is responsible for the execution and evaluation of critical processes, programs, and procedures relative to achieving plant goals and objectives, related to the Environment, Occupational Health, Regulatory Law, and Safety.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES:
  • Adhere to, and continuously improve upon, all plant and position-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Coordinate application, maintenance, compliance, and retention of facility regulatory permits and fees.
  • Ensure proper environmental, health, and safety training, awareness, and communications to all employees.
  • Provide guidance, support, and change leadership for environmental / regulatory, health, and safety objectives.
  • Analyze and design programs to address / improve the facility environmental, regulatory, health, and safety impacts.
  • Lead and support environmental initiatives and processes to drive towards zero NOVs/ENCs
  • Understands and actively supports the concept of LFI (Learning From Incidents) for all environmental incidents, property damage, near miss, and all injuries resulting in first aid treatment or more. Track all incidents and corrective actions to closure.
  • Can train others in specific environmental tasks.
  • Understands and ensures compliance with our regulatory and corporate standards. Respect for the potential hazards within the manufacturing operation. Training and regular auditing of our processes.
  • Guide incident investigations and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Function as a supporting member of the EHS team.
  • Ability to take direction and influence others for action and alignment
  • Responsible for managing safety & environmental inspections.
  • Maintain the floor dry stations and environmental waste outlets.
  • Act as a guide and safety trainer for outside contractors.
  • Manages hazardous waste storage, tracking log, labeling and disposal spreadsheet.
  • Track environmental training for all employees.
  • Close out all assigned tasks in the Lotus Notes database.
  • Write JHA's and Standard Work and train others
  • Lead and support various safety teams
  • Update and maintain the requirements of the GHS (Global Harmonized Standard) that include, SDS books and chemical labeling.
  • Filling and conducting environmental inspections.
  • Data entry for various information collected
  • Liaison between the plant and other outside resources
  • Follows all environmental compliance polices & programs.
  • Leads and participates in Lean Continuous Improvement project teams bringing them successful completion as assigned.
  • Submits SAP Notifications for safety related Reliability requests.
  • Leads and maintains a good working relationship with all departments and teams.
  • Availability to work on different shifts throughout the Month.
  • Comply with all plant rules
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain a clean and orderly work area
  • Track all permits and review and document
  • All other duties as assigned by leader

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPETENCIES
The employee must be able to:
  • Operate a computer and other keyboard instruments.
  • Utilize Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook.
  • Utilize SAP, KMI and other software for data entry and reporting purposes.
  • Utilize agency specific web-based software to enter reports for regulatory agencies
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
The employee should have the following:
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong creative thinking skills
  • Ability to initiate action and lead team activities
  • Extensive knowledge of legal / regulatory requirements related to environment, health, and safety
  • Strong listening and comprehension skills.
  • Clear growth potential within the EHS function with willingness to support other locations with increasingly larger levels of responsibility
  • Leads by setting the example and by demonstrating confidence and optimism and identifies and clearly communicates the need for improvement and change
  • Strong technical safety and environmental skills. Specifically, OSHA 29 CFR 1904 and 1910, EPA Title V, and TCEQ regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations such as SPCC, CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA, CWA, CAA, EPCRA, SARA
  • Experience in working with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies (Adams County, City of Denver, EPA, OSHA, CDPHE) and representing the company in a professional manner.
  • 2-5 or more years of demonstrated experience in the field of Environmental Health and Safety (in manufacturing preferred)
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee should possess the ability to:
  • Work extended/flexible hours
  • Sit /stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Utilize computer equipment for extended periods of time.
  • Climb exterior/interior ladders at lengths exceeding 40 feet.
  • Must be able to squat, bend at the waist and knees freely
  • Exposure to temperature extremes
  • Exposure to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable
  • Bending and twisting
  • Able to climb tanks to read gauges
  • Travel is less than 10%
