PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for initiating and implementing technical improvements, preventing, and resolving technical problems, and assessing the capabilities of the processes. The manufacturing engineer will provide all aspects of technical leadership in the improvement of manufacturing processes, manufacturing equipment efficiencies, productivity, and quality to ensure our products meet customer needs. Additionally, this position drives process standardization by focusing on enhancing production operators and maintenance technician equipment knowledge through Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) processes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Driving a Strong Safety Culture
  • Live the OC Safety Stand and adhere to Employee Safety Responsibilities.
  • Utilize technical knowledge to provide a safe and secure work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Leading and supporting safety initiatives and processes to drive towards zero recordable injuries.
Provide Technical Leadership for Processes Improvements and Controls
  • Conducting process audits to review Critical Product Characteristics and Critical Process Variables and implementing sustainable corrective actions for process shifts or upsets
  • Determining process consistency and capability (Cpk)
  • Implementing control charting schemes for Critical Process Variables based on ISBMS and S&T specifications.
  • Developing and implementing Operator Control Plans to ensure that all products meet specifications at the lowest cost.
  • Identifying and eliminating common causes of product and process variation
  • Analyzing product and process data, providing feedback and making recommendations to optimize performance.
  • Partner with S&T and TPM resources to identifying and implementing process improvements and best practices.
  • Implementing corrective actions for issues surfaced through quality complaints and hold tags.
  • Coaching, counseling, and training all employees on process control
  • Establishing processes for all critical tasks and audit for adherence and compliance
  • Partner with maintenance to resolve equipment issues.
  • Identifying and requesting capital funding for equipment, modifications, etc.
Coaches, Trains, Mentors Equipment Operators and Maintenance Technicians on Key Process Components
  • Educating primary employees in the manufacturing process and process control procedures
  • Partnering with Maintenance to develop and implement TPM plans for equipment to ensure employee understanding and ownership.
  • Partnering with our Product Technical Leaders to develop Product Specifications that are achievable and capable in the manufacturing environment.
  • Partnering with our Product Stewards to ensure all BOM and raw materials match the manufacturing specifications, raw material specifications and are tied back to our internal cost standards.
Provides Technical Leadership and Project Management Improve Product Quality, Equipment Uptime, and Line Utilization
  • Utilize TPM methodologies to problem solve process issues and increase equipment reliability, process capability, and improve product quality.
  • Identifying, understanding, and teaching others the Critical Product Characteristics required to provide our customers with a quality product.
  • Developing and implementing procedures and systems to ensure products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Lead experiments and trials for new and existing products to ensure they meet customer's fitness for use.
  • Apply sound engineering practices towards the completion of improvement projects.
Provide Technical Leadership for Products, Processes, and Equipment
  • Understand current manufacturing process capability, drive to reduce variation, and ensure product quality and consistency to improve the overall customer experience.
  • Continuously improve manufacturing productivity through process technology (density, piece job, spinner, and operating efficiency, direct materials, energy, transportation, and labor)
  • Serve as liaison and leader for product and process trials within the plant by developing trial plan, communicating with trial stakeholders, and ensuring execution of the trial.
  • Drive incremental process development and implement process improvements.
  • Maintain and assist in the development and documentation of process standards to meet manufacturing specifications.
  • Network with plants, Science and Technology (S&T), and other relevant work groups to leverage technical knowledge for identification and rapid deployment of best practices.
  • Participate in the scope development and execution of all major projects, including rebuilds, to ensure safety, performance, schedule, and cost goals of the projects are met or exceeded.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
  • TPM training and experience (or similar methodology)
  • 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE :
  • Background in continuous manufacturing, technical insulation, and general manufacturing leadership
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :
  • General knowledge of glass melting, binder formulation, fiberizing, forming, cure, and packaging processes preferred.
  • General knowledge of Root Cause Failure Analysis or equivalent process.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and lead multi-functional teams to achieve plant objectives.
  • Strong listening and comprehension skills.
  • Strong at managing projects through completion.
  • Ability to lead change through influence and without having direct line leadership of the team.
  • Strong problem solving skills to quickly assess situations, develop appropriate solutions, and manage execution.
  • Utilizing data and data collection systems within TPM methodologies for problem-solving and decision-making to eliminate manufacturing losses and unnecessary costs.
  • Able to create and implement strategic and operations plans.
  • Effective with verbal and written communication.
  • External perspective and understands that all business opportunities start with knowledge of how to create value for customer.
  • Able to achieve results fast both individually and through teams.
  • Able to utilize OC systems and the necessary software.
