TITLE: Long-term Substitute Teacher High School EnglishTERM: August 26, 2024 through November 26, 2024 (estimated)SUMMARY: Reporting to the Building Principal, the Long-term Substitute Teacher provides classroom coverage for a teacher who is absent for an extended period, working the regular hours of the absent Classroom Teacher during his/her absence.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaches content and skills in assigned classroom utilizing lesson plan and designated curriculum.Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the curriculum and the needs of each student and/or subgroups of students.Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports and other recordkeeping activities, as necessary.Evaluates each students progress in meeting the course standards.Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productiveclassroom environment.Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health, and attitude problems.Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the school day.Participates in faculty meetings.Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and ExperienceBachelors Degree required. Must possess Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education License in the pertinent subject area or student age classification.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of the subject(s) or age group being taught and the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.Skill-based competencies include attention to detail and accuracy; exercise of judgment in carrying out tasks with minimal guidance and direction; operating a computer including Microsoft and Google applications; and familiarity with educational software.Ability-based competencies include communicating effectively; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be required to remain stationary for extended periods; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer; comprehend and communicate; and move up to 25 pounds. Accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job is normally performed in a school classroom environment and may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school.
