Description

The Director of Production is a Full-Time Exempt leadership position within Pablo Center at the Confluence (Pablo Center) and reports to the Chief Operating Officer. The Director of Production is a key member of the leadership team (along with the Chief Officers and (4) four other Directors) responsible for programming and operations of the Pablo Center.

This position will serve as production manager for all Pablo Center events and will facilitate the use of the facility as a presenting venue for community partner events and rentals. This position must work closely with faculty and staff from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire academic departments and administrative units as well as the community to ensure quality customer service. The intention is that this role will be predominantly a first-shift type position; some evening, night, weekend, and holiday work hours will be a necessity of this position. This position will report to and supervise staff with dual reporting structures to the Executive Director of the Pablo Center and the UWEC - Director of Facilities.

Requirements

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Recruit, hire, mentor, instruct, schedule, and evaluate full-time, part-time and student employees who work for the Pablo Center as they:

a. Perform the daily execution of lighting, sound, video, staging, rigging and other specific technical needs for internal and external clients to fulfill contractual obligations.

b. Maintain an inventory of all Pablo Center production equipment.

c. Hire, train, and grow our high-impact student employment program.[MOU1] 

2. Provide comprehensive oversight of Pablo Center production services including:

a. Budget development and implementation.

b. Production Advancing of Pablo Presents, Co-Pro’s, and Rentals presented by Pablo Center

c. Management of the IATSE Union 13 Contract

d. Staff/Student personnel management.

e. Coordination of events within the Pablo Center sponsored by various University departments, Visit Eau Claire, Pablo Center, and community arts and other organizations.

f. Compliance with all University/UW System/state/national guidelines, rules and regulations.[MOU2] 

g. Oversight of untrained user groups and enforcement of all policies as it relates to Pablo Center equipment and safety procedures. 

h. Work with UWEC colleagues to serve as the liaison with the University Facilities, Risk Management and Safety, and other appropriate unties to identify and carry out necessary repairs, preventative maintenance, and scheduled inspections, 

3. Conduct training/instructional sessions for Pablo Center full-time, part-time, student employees regarding production and facility operations.

4. Assist, when appropriate and needed, with Pablo Center development and promotion, including organization and production of fundraising events.

5. Work with appropriate University units and departments to create and maintain employment and service-learning opportunities related to Pablo Center. Mentor and instruct the internship participants so that these unique opportunities always support the academic mission of the University as well as the production needs of Pablo Center at the Confluence.

6. Supervise the operational and event related activities of the Production training program within Pablo Center– including professional lighting, sound, rigging, projection and other production techniques.

7. Develop and maintain working venue drawings, tech packet, and production specs.

8. Prepare, present, and administer budgets to include payroll, capital equipment, and maintenance for the various production venues, rehearsal rooms, classrooms and public spaces overseen by this position.

9. Develop, implement, and evaluate policies, procedures, and guidelines for all event production; relating to the technical use of the production equipment/facilities, ensuring safe working conditions and best practices. 

10. Serve as an additional Pablo Center liaison with the University Learning Technology Services (IT) staff.

11. Maintain a long-range production maintenance plan for Pablo Center.

12. Oversee the production aspects for all internal events (as producing agent), including pre and post event management arrangements.

13. Facilitate and coordinate facility usage for internal and external clients and rentals (as presenting agent), including the University, Visit Eau Claire, community arts organizations, and private entities. 

14. Maintain the master production calendar, in collaboration with the External/Internal talent buyers, special event manager, and contracts manager.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Keeps current with developments in event production/live event production issues to identify potential problems or opportunities. 

2. Understanding of building operations, especially in Chief Operating Officer’s absence. 

3. Other duties as may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.

Work Relationships and Scope: 

Reports directly to Chief Operating Offer. Is a member of the leadership team. Supervises Production Manager, Head Audio Engineer, Lighting Supervisor, Scheduling Manager, Crew-Chiefs, and Part-time production crew. There will be daily engagement with the Chief Operations Officer and other leadership team members. Frequent contact with professional service providers, union stagehands, national/local crew and our affiliate partners.

A passion for the Arts and understanding of important economic catalyst tourism & the creative economy play in the Chippewa Valley.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Required:

· Undergraduate degree in technical theater or closely related field from a nationally accredited institution 

· 4-6 years of demonstrated professional growth in production management. 

· Previously demonstrated strong leadership, mentoring and training abilities in production and facility management – including lighting, sound, rigging, projections and other production techniques. 

· Experience working with a diverse group of clients in multi-use facilities. 

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills – as the successful applicant will need to mentor/instruct/interact with a diverse employee, student, faculty, staff, administrative, community, artistic and professional clientele.

· Valid drivers license

Preferred:

· A Master’s of Fine Arts degree or Master’s degree in technical theater or closely related field from a nationally accredited institution. 

· 10 years of growing responsibility within a theatrical/live event production environment

· Live sound mixing experience

· Lighting, Sound, Projection Design experience 

· ETCP Certification in Theatrical Rigging 

· ETCP Certification in Theatre Electrics 

Working Conditions

Work is performed mainly in a pleasant office environment with minimal exposure to injury. Regular work hours are normally on weekdays and will usually average 45 hours a week. Regular scheduled evening and weekend work may be required. Confluence Council, Inc has the following mission:
