Part-time clinical faculty provide instruction in the skills lab and clinical setting that facilitates
students’ achievement of course learning outcomes and contribute to the success of the
College and its students. Part-time faculty consistently demonstrate Pacific College’s values as
outlined above.
Summary of Responsibilities:
▪ Demonstrates and maintains knowledge of the overall program, program outcomes
and course outcomes.
▪ Responsible for teaching and evaluating students in the skills lab, simulation center
and clinical agency.
▪ Provides an effective learning environment that facilitates student learning.
▪ Supportstudents’ progression in academics and socialization into the role of nursing.
▪ Utilizes an array of assessment tools to evaluate student learning.
▪ Demonstrates leadership by serving as a mentor to students.
▪ Recognizes the role of a nurse educator and pursues continuous inservice/professional development opportunities annually.
▪ Develops studentsuccess plans and remediates “at risk” students.
▪ Facilitates the nursing students’ application of theory to clinical practice.
▪ Communicates effectively utilizing professional techniques with clinical
agency representatives, staff, other faculty, and students.

▪ Provides needed communication with VN leadership concerning student progress
including successes and identified needs, clinical issues, suggestions, and/or
professional learning needs.
▪ As a clinical instructor, grades clinical papers and provides students with timely and clear
feedback.
▪ Maintains all records on student performance, i.e., Student Success Plan and
Mid-term and final clinical evaluations.
▪ Adheres to/enforces the policies and procedures of Pacific College and the
assigned clinical facility.
▪ Attends hospital-based orientations
▪ Completes clinicalsite evaluations.
▪ Must work one or both weekend days as skills lab and clinical are on the weekend days.
▪ Must be willing to orient to more than one clinical site as needed.
In addition to responsibilitiesfor teaching didactic and/or clinical classes

▪ Participates in college governance meetings if desired.
▪ Participates in faculty meetings, in-service offerings, and other nursing events
(i.e., graduation, pinning, etc.) if available and contributes to the campus culture
in a positive and meaningful way.
▪ Provides input to developing, evaluating, and revising program policies through the
governance structure.
WorkRequirements:

Light Work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force
frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm

worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
Visual Acuity: Position requires close visual acuity to perform activities (i.e.
preparing/analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer monitor; extensive
reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines;
using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the
eyes).
Work Environment: Moderate noise.
Environmental Conditions: Typical office or administrative conditions (i.e. not substantially
exposed to adverse environmental conditions).

Qualifications for the Position
Faculty shall provide evidence of education and experience necessary to indicate that they are
competent to teach skills lab or clinical experience. The following are required for approval by
the BVNPT*.
▪ A bachelor’s degree in nursing or in another discipline if a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
Must have a minimum of two years’ nursing experience in the past five years.
▪ An associate degree in nursing with a minimum ofsix years’ experience as a nurse.
▪ Must demonstrate competency teaching Adult Learners. May include a course or a
CEU program.
▪ Previous experience teaching in a vocational nursing program at a college is
preferred.
▪ Holds a current unencumbered state nursing license (RN or LVN).
▪ Maintains competence/expertise in teaching through activities such as nursing
practice, continuing education programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, and
academic courses.
*Subject to BVNPT regulation and approval.
