Position Summary
Under general direction from the Controller/Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager is responsible for establishing accounting systems and controls to ensure the integrity of the financial practices and reporting in accordance with state, federal, and local policies, laws, rules, and guidelines. This position manages and supervises all daily accounting tasks, accounts payable and is responsible for managing the month end closing processes and activities. This person plays a key role in the annual financial audit and oversees the execution and reporting for annual re-enrollment of students. The Controller & Director of Finance heavily relies on this role to be detail-oriented, independently driven, forward-thinking, proactive with suggestions around opportunities for improvement, adaptable, and a team player.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to, the following)
  • Ensure all actual revenues and expenditures have been properly recorded in accordance with GAAP requirements
  • Oversee monthly close functions relating to monthly and year-end close of accounting system
  • Responsible for overseeing the preparation of 1099 and 1096 annual reporting
  • Responsible for daily cash transaction including deposits and reconciliation
  • Perform a key role in the annual financial audit process including preparing schedules, coordinate with other departments to gather information as needed, preparing adjusting journal entries, compiling the financial reports, and assisting with ensuring procedural changes recommended by auditors are implemented
  • Responsible for record retention and data integrity
  • Supervise accounting staff as appropriate
  • Manage the monthly forecasting process with budget managers for both operating results and capital expenses
  • Maintain the fixed asset and depreciation schedule including making sure the information is current
  • Manage the student re-enrollment process which includes managing the contract in the School Information System (SIS), testing the integrity of the data, distributing new contracts to families, tracking responses, reporting progress to the committee and following up with families as needed. This is a key role that requires attention to detail to ensure a positive experience for our families.
  • Maintaining our long-range planning model ("5-year plan") and providing analysis to support the assumptions we will use to forecast the future
  • Ad hoc financial analysis for initiatives and proactive suggestions on opportunities for improvement
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications (minimum requirements)
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or equivalent
  • Minimum of 4 years of accounting experience
  • Experience in a managerial role is preferred
  • Non-profit experience preferred but not required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Analytical and proven ability to think strategically
  • Detail oriented
  • Professionalism and ability to communicate well at any level
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Adaptable and open to change
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and bring projects to completion
  • Savvy with technology and ability to learn new programs
  • Skilled in the typical Microsoft office suite of products
