Pacifica Christian High School is seeking a dynamic leader to lead the school's marketing and communications efforts. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong communication, problem-solving, writing, and project management skills.

Job Summary

The Director of Marketing & Communications is an integral part of the school’s administrative team. They work in the Office of Advancement directly supporting the work of the Advancement & Admissions Offices. They are tasked with contributing to all internal and external communications, marketing, and communication services at Pacifica Christian High School. This includes implementation of annual communication and marketing plans that define our strategic efforts to promote Pacifica Christian. The Marketing and Communications Director will provide expert counsel to school leadership and initiate plans to deliver key messages, ensure consistency and continuity, and reinforce the mission and goals of Pacifica Christian.

Personal Characteristics

The Director of Marketing & Communications is a person mature in Christian faith, who values and understands the liberal arts within a high school context, and who can effectively communicate the mission of the school to external audiences and networks. The DMC will exhibit integrity, and spiritual depth, possess management and administrative gifts, exhibit enthusiasm and high energy for the task, understand the diverse constituencies of Pacifica, communicate with warmth and understanding, work as a member of a team, and enjoy the challenge of consistently improving the school’s efforts to communicate its mission, core values, strategic plans and plan events that foster the mission and promote community. 

The ideal candidate is also mature in Christian faith, with significant, sustained investment in a local church community and a life rich in devotion and/or spiritual discipline. We expect all Pacifica employees to support our community-wide project by using academics, extracurriculars, and personal relationships as a means of grace to help all involved become more fully human in the recognition and restoration of the image of God within us. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Marketing:

  • As an institutional storyteller, capture the ethos of the hallways, classrooms, stage, and playing fields and drive the content pipeline to consistently create and deliver compelling communications for the entire Pacifica Christian community;
  • Write news releases, post school news online and through social media, and cultivate relationships with local media representatives to generate positive news coverage;
  • Help execute a strategic communication plan that supports internal and external communication efforts, incorporating consistent themes that support the strategic initiatives and priorities of Pacifica Christian;
  • Provide marketing services and communications support to departments school-wide (Advancement, Admissions, Athletics, Academics, Arts, Minchin, College Counseling. etc.);
  • Monitor all forms of media (web, social, print, email) to ensure that all constituencies receive timely and up-to-date information and respond to online feedback as appropriate;
  • Manage Pacifica Christian’s internet presence, including the website and all social networking channels (including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn);
  • Manage and implement Pacifica's paid digital advertising campaigns. Analyze and react to market trends, website traffic, and paid advertising, and report to the leadership team;
  • Manage, lead, and creatively collaborate with contract designers and volunteers;
  • Manage and contribute to the collection of photographs and videos for all marketing efforts;
  • Assess and pursue marketing and advertising opportunities, including developing anadvertising schedule in conjunction with each department;
  • Work with the Advancement Department to coordinate print and electronic communications where needed, particularly during funding drives and campaign efforts.
  • Provide a quarter report to the executive team and the board of trustees
  • Work alongside the Admissions Department to ensure a unique and targeted communications plan from inquiry to enrollment utilizing he school’s admissions technologies;
  • Work closely with the Admissions and Advancement Departments on several events each year;
  • Conduct demographic and market analysis as needed;
  • Team with our graphic design firm, Lane and Lane, to oversee all publications and image development;
  • Team with our digital video design firm and staff to oversee all film presentations including marketing videos of alumni, students, staff, parents, and professional capturing of key events;
  • Serve as the ambassador for Pacifica Christian’s brand and visual identity (working with Lane and Lane), including evaluation of all print, clothing, and digital communications;
  • Educate and inform internal constituencies about the importance of adherence to brand standards;
  • Create and execute community events that drive brand awareness to the external community.

Other Duties and Shared Responsibilities

  • Celebrates students’ by attending their co-curricular activities on occasion
  • Arrives on-time, is well-prepared, acts professionally, and seeks to add value in every facet of the job while working collaboratively with colleagues and students to advance Pacifica's mission. Maintains communication with parents/staff and responds to messages within 24 hours. Holds self directly accountable to their direct report and to the departments they serve, and ultimately the Head of School.
  • Attends and readily participates in Pacifica’s annual overnight All-School Retreat as well as Admissions Open House(s), Back-to-School Night, Staff Retreat(s), and Commencement activities.

Common Qualification Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field;
  • Three-plus years of relevant experience in media relations – including reputation management, public relations, writing, editing, or publications project management in a business or educational setting;
  • Superior writing, speaking, and editing skills;
  • Experience creating and posting content to social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc);
  • Experience working with the Adobe Creative Suite;
  • Familiarity with AP Style Guide;
  • Strong diplomacy & time management skills driven by collaboration and the ability to work well with multiple constituents.
  • Alignment with Pacifica’s mission and values.
  • Creative, strong design and organizational skills. Commitment to detail.
