SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The position of CPOE Analyst I is responsible for reviewing all CPOE results and providing assistance to the Lab Manager and Lab Technician when needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

(1) Analyses all CPOE results and accurately record them in the EMR.

(2) Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling, processing and maintaining records.

(3) Organizes work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling, sorting specimens, checking labeling, logging specimens, and keeping work surfaces clean and orderly.

(4) Accurately enters data into the Laboratory Information System.

(5) Confirms that the specimen matches the requisition form and that complete demographic and specimen source information is given.

(6) Confirms that the requisition is properly identified with the patient’s full name, DOB, date of collection, and physician’s name.

(7) Prepares excess specimen samples for storage and resolves and documents problem specimens.

(8) Prepares laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing.

(9) Aliquots sample for departments.

(10) Follow CLIA, API, CAP, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines as described in their respective regulations.

(11) Unpacks specimens from branches or ports and routes specimens by type to various staging areas.

(12) Participates in all applicable safety training sessions, knows the location and contents of the safety manual, and knows the location/use of all applicable safety equipment.

(13) Scans records into electronic medical record (EMR) system.

(14) Create UDT orders and generate UDT superbills into EMR system.

(15) Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

The position requires a high school diploma or educational equivalent. One (1) year of prior experience in the laboratory setting is preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are expected to include 7:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. (Monday – Thursday). Occasional overtime may be required. The position operates in a professional office environment and the incumbent, in the course of performing this position, spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, driving, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting, walking, standing, and reaching. The incumbent may operate any or all of the following standard office equipment including but not limited to multi-line telephone system, postage mater, facsimile machines, calculator, photocopy machine, computer/printer, and coffee maker. The incumbent may operate medical equipment. The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
