BUILDING INSPECTOR

OVERVIEW:

Palmetto Engineering & Consulting, Inc., an employee-owned consulting firm, is seeking a qualified Building Inspector for construction and building inspections. As a Building Inspector, you will be required to conduct inspections before, during, and after construction to ensure that the building and construction sites comply with safety, structural, and building code regulations. You will also be required to issue violation notices, stop-work orders, and permits for construction.

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Observing the project site and examining the existing conditions prior to construction.
  • Reviewing the construction documents and specifications to be knowledgeable of the contractor’s scope of work.
  • Checking foundation depths/dimensions, ensuring that the reinforcement meets what is specified and is installed according to the construction documents, and monitoring the third party administering the strength/compaction tests of the construction materials.
  • Monitoring structural, plumbing, heating, and electrical installations.
  • Inspecting the building structure, plumbing, electrical, sewerage, and heating systems for safety and specification compliance.
  • Examining cranes and other lifting equipment and ensuring that measures are taken to protect the slab from any spills or damage.
  • Maintaining daily construction logs and ensuring that the construction site adheres to all safety codes.
  • Measuring dimensions to verify alignment, elevation, and leveling of the building.
  • Notifying the owner and the architect of any problems or conflicts that arise and issuing violation notices and stop-work orders when necessary.

 QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or building inspection technology.
  • Proven work experience as a Building Inspector.
  • Knowledge of construction design techniques.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, plumbing, electrical systems, heating systems, and sewerage systems.
  • Advanced mathematical skills.
  • Ability to make difficult decisions.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, construction designs and specifications.
  • Ability to travel and work irregular hours.
  • A good eye for detail.
  • Ability to be at the project site each day the duration of the project’s construction.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
