**Summary:**

This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising project safety and accident and fire protection programs in compliance with corporate safety program standards on all job sites.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**

* Recognize and control hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee and subcontractor activities through safety management and contacting supervisory personnel

* Conduct work area surveillance inspections, air sampling tests, property damage and conduct personal injury investigations. Issue confined area entry and hot work permits as required

* Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions/activities and determine root cause analysis

* Conduct hazard assessments and determine corrective actions and PPE necessary to minimize exposure

* Review documentation to ensure all required records and reports are complete, accurate, and submitted per established procedures

* Implement appropriate corrective action as required

* Accompany all safety, health, and insurance personnel during inspections

* Assist corporate program by crafting and implementing employee safety orientation training programs

* Photograph site conditions

* Drive motor vehicle in performance of duties

* Conduct classroom and field training of project personnel

* Climb to heights on equipment and platforms

**Supervisory Responsibilities:**

5-10 employees

**Requirements:**

* Minimum of 10 of years experience serving in a Safety Manager role within the heavy civil industry and minimum of 5 years MSHA experience

* Preferable MSHA instructor qualifications OSHA Qualified Trainer for Construction Standards courses

* Specific experience with heavy equipment, excavations, confined spaces, and lockout tag out procedures

* Extensive experience and knowledge of construction and/or industrial safety requirements

* Effective communication with diverse groups by telephone, in written form, e-mail or in person

* Excellent report writing skills

* Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint SharePoint is a plus

* Ability to climb and maintain balance at heights

* Good vision and hearing (naturally or with correction)

* Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds routinely

* Valid drivers license and good driving record

* May be required to drive at night and work alone for long periods of time

* Work in extremely warm environments

* Walk long distances over rough and/or variable terrain

**Education and Experience:**

* 4 year occupational safety/health degree or equivalent combinations of training and related experience

* CSP, CSHM, CIH or similar professional certification highly preferred

* 10 years of documented safety management experience on heavy civil construction projects

* Proficiency developing, interpreting, and enforcing company safety and health processes and procedures to include OSHA 1926 construction regulations

* Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local, and company regulations

**Safety Considerations:**

The EH&S Manager typically works 12 hours per day, 6-7 days per week in extreme hot and cold environments after acclimatization. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including protective clothing and creams will be provided to minimize exposure Employees are required to wear all required PPE on a daily basis. A valid drivers license and good driving record are essential if operating a motor vehicle. May be required to work on variable terrain in performance of duties. The EH&S Manager routinely lifts/carries up to 50 pounds unassisted.

* Work in all types of field environments where walking may be strenuous

* Use of field test equipment that requires manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.

* Non-routine climbing

* Possible entry of confined and/or enclosed spaces where respiratory protective equipment is required

* Possible trench and/or excavation entry

* Possible long distance driving over extended periods

* Possible night work

Possible exposure to hazardous materials on a routine basis during performance of duties. PPE and protective clothing provided to minimize exposure
