Job Title: Combo Clerk Location: PAQ, Inc Reports To: Combo/Front EndManager Employee Type: Regular, Full-Time Exemption Type:Non-Exempt Updated:05/09/2024 Job Summary: Combo Clerk play a vital role in store operations in that they are typically the last Employee Owner that our customers engage with. They also have the very importantresponsibility of accurateprocessing of all forms of payment for store merchandise. Each Combo Clerk is assigned a cash drawer at the beginning of their shift that they will be responsible forreconciling accurately at the completion of their shift. Assistingwith other departmentsresponsibilities is done as needed as well. Essential Functions of the Position: Friendly and helpful customer service includingnavigating difficult situations with customers in an effort to diffuse conflict orresolvecustomer concerns. Utilizing supervisor assistanceas needed. Accurately identifyingproduce items and processing produce codes. Processes all forms of transactions including cash, checks, couponsand all electronic payment tenders including debit, credit, gift cards, EFS, EBT, and WIG. Utilize knowledge of store layout and products to assistcustomers in inquiries and problem solving. Utilize detailed payment acceptance processes to ensure accuracy and minimize loss to the company and customers. Efficient and accurateprocessing of all store merchandise at the register including sufficient items scanned per minute to assistin minimizing customerstime waiting in line. Accurately prepares and maintains records for cash drops, and cash and coin needed for register throughout the course of their shift. Follows all company policies including accounting for bottom of the basket items. Comply withthe State of California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control regulations and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms regulationsincluding sales of alcohol during appropriate hours,not selling alcohol to an obviously intoxicated person,and properly checking identification to avoid minors purchasingalcohol. Utilizes supervisor assistanceto void items or transactions as needed and resolve technical issues at the check stand. Supervises and operatesSCO as needed including insuring customer accuracy scanning items and processing paymentand troubleshooting as needed. Reconciles assigned till at the end of shift and accurately balances from report for each form of payment and total amount processed for the day. Process customer transactions through the Point of Sale (POS)system accurately and efficiently. Maintain knowledge of ongoing promotions and store policies to provide accurateinformation to customers. Report potentially unsafe conditionsandsuspicious activities. Validateeachdenominationof$20 or abovefor authenticityandinforming managementof any counterfeit bills. Assistswith assigned duties in other departments as needed and delegated by store management. Knowledge: Knowledge of basic math and cash handling procedures. Familiarity of customer service best practices and strategies for enhancing customer engagement. Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills to interact positively with customers and team members. Strong problem-solving skills to handle customer service issues effectively. Proficient in organizing tasks, managing time efficiently, and multitasking in a fast-paced environment. Detail oriented. Abilities: Capability to adjust to changing situations, handle multiple demands, and work with diverse personalities. Aptitude for making informed decisions quickly, often in high-pressure situations. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Capable of lifting and moving items up to 25 pounds frequentlyandup to 50 pounds occasionally. Comfortable performing repetitive movements such as reaching, bending, and squatting. Ability to operateand demonstrate use of cashier equipment including POS systems and other necessary technology. Ability to operatePOS system including SCO system. Ability to operate10 key adding machine. Ability to utilizenecessary cash handling tools including counterfeit bill detection pens and equipment. Work Conditions: Standard Work Hours: Vary, weekend, evening and holiday availability, full timehours typically 8 hours a day. Indoor Climate-Controlled Environment: Maintainedat a controlled temperature with adequate lighting and ventilation. Primary work stationsare check stand POS, SCO and count room but may assistthroughout store location as needed. Dress Code: Professional and presentable attire as determinedby store management including name tag, company issued shirts, hats, jackets as needed or personal shirts that are black, burgundyor blue that are not faded and in good repair. Exposed to moving mechanical parts. Noiselevel is usually between low to moderate.
