Purpose Statement

The job of International Baccalaureate Coordinator - Elementary is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by assisting in the implementation of curriculum and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP); supporting teachers in using data by identifying goals and monitoring student progress; planning instruction; providing professional development; communicating with a wide variety of personnel; and serving as a resource to others.

This job reports to the Site Administrator

Essential Functions

Coordinates the planning, implementation, and monitoring of programme development initiatives, aligned to IB Standards and Practices that promotes programme growth and supports the vision and mission of the school and the school district.

Communicates with the IB organization for authorization and evaluation.

Collaborates with teachers in a variety of ways (e.g. planning for learning and instruction, implementation of the lesson, classroom and instructional management responsibilities, collection and analysis of data, transdisciplinary curricular connections, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that data and analysis are properly used to drive instruction utilizing best practices of the PYP.

Collaborates with instructional staff and other school personnel through reflection and planning for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes and achieving established teaching objectives. 

Models, co-teaches, and co-plans lessons and units using research-based strategies for the purpose of providing observable approaches to teaching and learning for maximizing student learning through inquiry-based instruction. 

Prepares and maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents files and records (e.g. Program of Inquiry, unit planners, IB supplemental resources, school IB policies) for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines, International Baccalaureate requirements, and legal requirements.

Observes and coaches teachers to provide supportive feedback regarding the implementation of strategies for the purpose of reflection and application of teaching and learning.

Participates in a variety of collaborative meetings and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

Serves as a resource to identify instructional strategies for the purpose of maximizing resources to support the school´s six transdisciplinary themes, unit planners, inquiry, action, etc.

Communicates with parents and the wider community regarding implementation of the PYP and provides parent support through parent meetings and information sessions during and outside of the instructional day.

Connects with other IB schools in the local and global community; seeks opportunities to promote international-mindedness and to foster collaborative projects and action.

Plans and facilitates professional development in collaboration with administration in alignment to the school´s program development plan and established district programs.

Other Functions

Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; repairing and maintaining accurate records; applying curriculum and instructional techniques.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: appropriate codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; age appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; stages of child development; behavioral management strategies; assessment instruments and techniques, methods of instruction.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job- related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: establishing and maintaining constructive relationships; adapting to changing work priorities; maintaining confidentiality; exhibiting tact and patience; working flexible hours; meeting deadlines and schedules;working as part of a team; adhering to all school and district policies and procedures.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Experience: Job related experience is desired.

Education: Bachelors degree in job-related area.
