Position Summary

Working with Parc’s early childhood education center, Discovery Learning Center (DLC), the Shuttle Bus Drivers transport children from one place to another. Typical duties of Drivers include picking up children, making sure the door is locked after loading, assisting children with embarking, driving safely, checking the van's condition periodically, and keeping the vehicle clean. A successful Driver will have good driving skills, time management, reliability, and excellent customer service skills.

Hours: Split shift: 6:00am - 8:30am and 1:30pm - 3:30 pm, M - F

Essential Responsibilities

  • Driver will transport designated passengers in accordance with schedule & procedures outlined in the Transportation Safety System Plan (SSPP) with the assistance of an aide when needed.
  • Receive and deliver children to parents or designated person. 
  • Communicate daily with parents on the van. 
  • Completion of paperwork including sign in sheets, transportation log, student observations, and other forms of documentation needed by the center as assigned. 
  • Maintains updated student records. Communicates with center if parent information has changed. 
  • Address any behavior concerns as appropriate & according to policies & procedures as well as the individual’s behavior plan.
  • Assist in loading & unloading passengers as necessary
  • Complete trip sheet at time of service accurately and notify Transportation Department of any changes of status of passengers, such as vacations, sustained absences, etc.
  • Project a professional image to the public.
  • To complete, pass & maintain trainings as mandated by regulatory entities.

Education, Training, Skills, and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. CDA (Child Development Associate) Degree preferred, or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in early childhood care
  • Must have 45-hour DCF trainings
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Able to pass DOT physical
  • Valid Florida Drivers’ License with acceptable driving record
    • No more than 3 moving violations and/or accidents (or a combination of the two) within
    • No major violations during the past 5 years
    • No more than 3 vehicle related suspensions/reinstatements over a three-year period.
  • Willing and able to work split shift
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
  • Experience in the field is highly preferred

Physical Demands 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds from the floor to waist if necessary.
  • Be physically, visually, and auditory aware of the cognitive, social and physical needs of clients.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
