Parchment School District is Hiring a Parchment Middle School Special Education Teacher Near Michigan, MI

POSITION: Middle School Special Education Teacher

Description: Under the direction and supervision of the Principal or Special Education Supervisor, the Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing appropriate educational experiences to meet the needs of the students on their caseload. This candidate will also provide supports to students in their area(s) of academic and behavioral needs while supporting the general curriculum. The candidate will be responsible for IEP development, progress reports, and coordinating services for their students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Special Education certification
  • CPI training preferred

CANDIDATES SHOULD ALSO POSSESS:

  • Experience in administering assessments, documenting student observations, evaluative report writing, academic and behavior progress monitoring
  • Ability to provide support to general education teachers regarding strategies, accommodations and modifications utilized within the classroom
  • Ability to articulate Special Education Rules and Regulations and how it relates to the educational environment
  • Effective communication skills with parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Able to professionally facilitate IEP meetings as well as other team meetings
  • Experience in writing standards-based IEPs
  • Ability to use differentiated instruction with elementary school students
  • Knowledge and ability to use technology in the classroom, including the integration for student use of technology

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas
  • Plans curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods
  • Evaluates student progress based on papers submitted, test scores and observation
  • Monitors students’ progress in and outside special ed room
  • Maintains physical environment of the classroom
  • Maintains contact with parents of students
  • Evaluates student progress based on work output and observation, determines goals, objectives, and directions
  • Prepares report cards, educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation records, and other forms
  • Perform other duties as assigned
