Horizon Health is a Critical Access, Rural Health Facility comprised of 25-inpatient beds located in Paris, IL & a multitude of outpatient clinic settings including Family Practice and Specialty Clinics in Paris and surrounding cities. Position Summary:

The Medical Assistant for dermatology/cosmetics assists the staff and providers in patient care and workflow. The medical assistant has administrative and clinical skills. Communicates with and assists in direct care of patients and families. Ensures timely flow of patients and assists the healthcare provider to provide optimal care to patients of all age groups. Possesses the knowledge and skills required to complete assignments at a proficient level and possesses an enthusiasm for learning and performing dermatology and cosmetic treatments.

Essential Functions:

  • Understands role as part of the healthcare team and demonstrates technical skills related to the job.
  • Applies computer concepts for office procedures. Computer skills adequate to do order entry, retrieve and print information. Updates computer skills to meet job requirements.
  • Accurately and completely documents on the electronic health record and completes forms and requisitions as indicated.
  • Obtain specimens and complies with appropriate handling guidelines.
  • Knows and practices good customer service; demonstrates friendly and caring attitude toward patients and families.
  • Good rapport with co-workers and medical providers. Works to create a pleasant work environment.
  • Develop a relationship with nurses and provider so as to be viewed as an asset to the patient’s medical team.
  • Acts as an extension of the medical team under the direction of the Physician or Nurse Practitioner.
  • Maintains physical office environment and equipment. Reports equipment in need of repair.
  • Inventories supplies and orders supplies.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with a variety of patients of all ages as well as the mentally and physically challenged patient.
  • Communicates with interdisciplinary services regarding patient needs as indicated.
  • Handles variety of telephone calls prioritizing patient requests and phone call priorities.
  • Knows and practices good customer service; demonstrates friendly and caring attitude toward patients and families.
  • Prepares patients for exam by healthcare provider, assisting with exam as needed.
  • Responsible for the completion and proper documentation of patient care waived testing as required by Rural Health Clinic standards. Maintenance of yearly competencies.

The responsibilities listed above are not all-inclusive; other activities may be required in support of the organization’s goals.

Position Requirements:

  • BLS certification within 1 month of hire
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate clinical skills for the position
  • Possesses basic computer skills, interest in healthcare and dermatology/cosmetics
  • Ability to work variable hours.
  • Ability to perform complex and multiple tasks in a fast paced, changing work environment subject to stress and interruption in an organized and timely fashion
  • Ability to work independently and with a team to provide dermatology and cosmetic treatments to patients.
  • Desire to promote dermatology practices and cosmeceutical sales

Location: 1 Phipps Lane Paris, IL 61944

Hours: Monday & Tuesday 8am-5pm, Wednesday & Thursday 7am-4pm.
