What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1:1 Special Education Para-Educator position at Park County School District #1?
- High school graduate or equivalent required; two (2) years of college (48 hours) or Associate’s Degree (or higher) preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work with a student that has special needs and follow instructions provided by the nurse, teacher and supervisor
- Team oriented; possession of human relations skills; ability to work cooperatively with parents and staff
- Assist the nurse with general care for a student with a significant physical impairment, including assistance with mobility, hygiene, and daily activities – this may be provided in different settings, i.e., homebound, and/or other school settings
- Ability to lift and assist the nurse with the student as needed, including helping with transfers and mobility
- Assist in modifying classroom materials and activities to accommodate the student’s physical and cognitive needs
- Support the student in accessing the curriculum by adapting learning materials (e.g., providing assistive technology, helping with written work, reading aloud, etc.)
- Provide feedback to the student’s teacher on their progress and any challenges they might face in completing tasks
- If necessary, provide support during transportation to and from school, ensuring safety and comfort
- Ability to work in dynamic, diverse settings; willingness to adapt to specific or new working situations; responding efficiently to feedback and providing direct support to students
- Reinforce lesson plans and help with classroom exercises, ensuring the student stays on track with their peers; Ensure that support is provided in accordance with their individualized education plan (IEP), including goals, objectives, accommodations, and any specific interventions they may require
- Prior experience with individuals with developmental and/or education-based disabilities, CPR/first aid training preferred
Provide hands-on instructional assistance/support and daily care for a student with a significant physical impairment as directed by the nurse, teacher(s), therapist(s) and building principal
Responsibilities include following daily plans from supervising teacher(s) and/or therapist(s), making necessary preparations for assistive technology, adaptive equipment, mobility challenges, and performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Employment Term: Up to 35 hours per week; this is a benefit eligible position
