Park University is Hiring an Instruction and Outreach Librarian (Assistant Teaching Professor) Near Parkville, MO

The Instruction and Outreach Librarian is responsible to lead, design, promote, provide, and assess the library’s research assistance and instruction programs, and develop new services that support student success, retention, and recruitment. This position requires an enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with students from diverse backgrounds and who can collaborate effectively with other instructors and campus units engaged in student success.
Position Accountabilities:
  • Information Literacy Instruction—Leads in the collaborative planning, design, delivery, and assessment of library instructional services—face-to-face, online or asynchronously—aligned with ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. Teaches a substantial share of the library’s instruction sessions. Collaborates with the Digital Initiatives and Resources Librarian to create and maintain online tutorials, videos, and research guides. Facilitate curriculum development for the “Information Literacy and Logic Competency” of the Park Liberal Education program and provide ongoing revision or support for the program.
  • Library User Assistance—Provides research, circulation, and basic technology assistance to library users and supervises designated staff and student employees in providing similar assistance at the Information Desk (in- person, telephone, email, or online chat/video). Guides policymaking, provides training, and maintains documentation and statistics related to these services and student outcomes.
  • Outreach Services – Coordinates regular and substantive co-curricular activities for face-to-face and online students that align with the library’s core values. Plans, designs, delivers, and assess library outreach services to support information literacy instruction, library anxiety, diversity and inclusion, and library services. Facilitates communication and marketing efforts through collaboration with Library Information Desk Assistants. Partners with other campus units to develop and implement programs that foster student success, particularly with research and writing (e.g. Academic Support Center tutors and mentors, Park Writes, Student Life personnel, etc.).
  • Enhancements—Stays abreast of trends in library management, technology, reference service and information literacy through active participation in local, regional, and national associations, conferences, and relevant listservs. Serves as a liaison to library colleagues through sharing of relevant information from professional activities.
  • Administrative—Assists with the development of policy guidelines and procedures for library user assistance in conjunction with library and university colleagues.
  • Other Duties—Engages in service activities related to university governance and the library profession and in consumption of scholarship. Performs other library duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
  • Masters of Library Science or Library and Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited school.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library theory, as well as current practices and trends in librarianship.
  • Experience providing research assistance to library users, preferred
  • Experience teaching information literacy or research in a higher education setting, preferred.
  • Experience with teaching in a distance, online, or asynchronous environment, preferred
  • Excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability and desire to fulfill the requirements needed for faculty tenure and promotion
  • Willingness to serve on university-level, regional, state, and national level committees.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work during evenings or weekends.
