PARK is Hiring an On-Call Crossing Guard - Lafayette IN Near Lafayette, IN

The safety of our children is of the utmost importance to Cross Safe, the community, and most importantly the parents. As a crossing guard for Cross Safe, you will be provided a truly unique and rewarding experience ensuring the safety of our children at crosswalks and intersections on all days school is in session.
We are seeking a reliable and dedicated individual to join our team as a paid On-call Crossing Guard in Lafayette, IN. The Crossing Guard plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of children and pedestrians at designated crossings near schools or other high-traffic areas. This position requires a responsible attitude, strong communication skills, and the ability to maintain order and safety during busy periods. Shift times vary by school and are between 30 minutes - 1 hour on all days school is in session. On-call guards are paid $13.50 per shift for being available 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon. In the event you are called to report to a post, you are paid $22.30 for that shift.
Essential Functions
  • Safely guide children and pedestrians across designated intersections or crosswalks.
  • Monitor traffic flow and wait for a safe gap in vehicles before signaling pedestrians to cross.
  • Use hand signals, stop paddles, and verbal commands to direct traffic when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with traffic and safety regulations at all times.
  • Report any traffic violations or safety concerns to local law enforcement or school authorities.
  • Assist children and pedestrians in crossing streets during inclement weather or hazardous conditions.
  • Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor when interacting with students, parents, and drivers.
  • Attend periodic training sessions and meetings related to crossing guard duties and safety protocols.
  • Work collaboratively with school officials, parents, and local authorities to enhance traffic safety awareness in the community.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Reliable and punctual with a commitment to ensuring the safety of children and pedestrians.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and remain alert and attentive during duty hours.
  • Adhere to all regulatory, company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening.
