JOB DESIGNATION

The Tool Designer supports the Production and Engineering Functions with the design of jigs, dies, and fixtures.

JOB CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

· Study specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop data and confer with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to product functions, material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost.

· Apply algebraic and geometric formulas and standard tool engineering data to develop tool configuration.

· Select standard items such as bushings and tool bits to incorporate into tool design.

· Draw preliminary sketches and prepare layout and detail drawings.

· Provide support to Value Streams as required.

· Collaborate with the Value Stream Manufacturing Engineers, Producibility Engineers, and Short Order Shop personnel to achieve an effective and ‘user-friendly’ designs.

· Read, analyze and interpret tooling drawings, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

· Effectively present information and respond to questions from internal and external customers (managers, clients, customers, and general employees).

· Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

· Focus on the timely achievement of these goals and objectives.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education: A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations

Bachelor of Science degree (BS) from four-year college or university is preferred.

Years of experience: 1-3 years of relevant experience

Skill requirements:

· Min 1 year of experience with tool design

· 1 year minimum experience with Creo (Pro-Engineer), Solid Works or similar CAD software

· Working knowledge of ANSI/ASME Y14.5M Standard for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

· Written and verbal communication skills are a necessity

· Interpersonal skills are a necessity

· Involvement in successful process definition and re-engineering is a plus.

· Experience in employee involvement in multi-discipline teaming is a plus.

Desired Skills:

· Proficiency with CAD software

· Lean manufacturing certification considered a plus

· Multi-tasked, punctual, flexible, & open minded

· Self-motivated, driven, high energy and resilience.

· Effective and collaborative problem-solving skills.

· Manufacturing Engineering skills, especially in a machine shop environment are a plus.
