Job Description

Supervise specific aspects of the Exceptional Student Services program in addition to providing appropriate psychological services.

As Director of ESS, duties will include, but not limited to the following: Will act as trainer for the ESS department including the use of IEP Pro, Regulations and Procedures regarding CPI, Restraint, Seclusion, IEP Compliance, and new and existing special education laws. Will write, monitor, and complete all programmatic and fiscal reports for IDEA entitlement, Preschool entitlement, and other grants related to ESS. Will coordinate all special education activities, including developing Special Education Manuals and forms, initiating and monitoring out of district placements, attendance at IEP conferences, completing, monitoring, and updating the District’s Special Education Census, Implementing CHILDFIND, auditing IEP’s and METs, provide compliance summaries when needed for principals and superintendent. Coordinates all related services: speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, vision/hearing therapy, counseling and school psychologist. Will work closely with Superintendent in developing and monitoring bids/RFP’s and purchased services in these areas. Coordinates homebound/home instruction services for students who require such services due to chronic illness or as required by IEP’s. Serves as PUSD District Coordinator of the Section 504 Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Provides approriate training opportunities for all staff with regards to special education and Section 504. Oversees district counselors, speech pathologist, and school psychologists. Monitors budget allocations, expenditures, and revisions of federal and state special education grants. Completes and monitors all requirements associated with the Medicaid reimbursement program. Serves as a resource to building administrators relative to programs, policies, and best practices. Performs other duties as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: shall include, but not limited to the following: Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws/regulations, policies, and procedures related to students with disabilities including proportionate share. Knowledge of the applicable PUSD departmental policies and procedures. The ability to assess, design, and implementent development activities. Knowledge and application of the IEP process. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong personal integrity. Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, parents, students, the general public, and others having business with the ESS Department and District.

As a School Psychologist: Participate in required child find activities. Provide short-term personal, vocational, emotional and/or academic counseling interventions; serve as referral source to outside agencies. Serve as a resource person for the administration, faculty and staff. Develop and assist in administration of appropriate educational and/or behavioral plans for students with special needs. Establish and maintain contact with community agencies. Provide appropriate psychological consultation to parents. Assist in the administration and interpretation of district-wide testing programs. Assist in the identification and provision of services to gifted students. Act upon child study team referrals. Conduct psychoeducational evaluations/reevaluations and prepare written reports. Schedule and provide leadership in staffings for students who have been evaluated and/or are being placed in special education. Actively participate in IEP development as appropriate. Review psychoeducational evaluations and placement decisions on students transferring from out of district as needed. Provide consultation to special education teachers. Provide in-service to faculty, staff, administration, community agencies, and parents. Assist in the interpretation of the special education program to interested parents, school related groups, and others in the community. Keep abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional literature, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.

Job Requirements

Must hold a Master’s degree. Valid Arizona Teacher Certification / Endorsement consistent with assignment. Must be highly qualified as a school psychologist. Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP fingerprint clearance card.
