Projected Hiring Range: Depending on Experience

Primary Purpose of Position: This is a professional level of accounting, working with the cash disbursements and general ledger functions of the department utilizing existing software. Responsible for ensuring agency is sufficiently insured in all aspects and meets all requirements of coverage as required by DMA and DHHS.

Role and Responsibilities:

70%: NON-UCR Payables

  • Responsible for State and Federal NON UCR and Block Grant accounting
  • Responsible for reviewing and coding all NON UCR invoices State/Federal/Medicaid and County expenses
  • Maintains and balances spreadsheets monthly and compares to current contracted amount
  • Works closely with providers in requesting necessary documentation

10%: General Ledger:

  • Generate and post journal entries into accounting system for review by the Finance Director.
  • Investigate discrepancies of general ledger accounts and report to the Finance Director.

10%: Auditing/Reporting

  • Assists with annual audits as needed

10% Other applicable duties as assigned as well as:

  • Primary backup to the Financial Services Coordinator as needed 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices
  • Knowledge of and ability to explain, and apply the provisions of the standardized accounting practices adopted by State Government
  • Working knowledge of accounting software
  • Knowledge of purchasing rules and regulations
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • High level of accounting skill
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to interpret and analyze accounting data and apply that analysis to the departmental or institutional needs. determine compliance with pertinent guidelines, rules, regulations, and laws
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of related contact agencies, departmental staff, and the general public

Education and Experience Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business and three (3) years of experience in business or governmental agency; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
