The Solid Waste Disposal Authority of the City of Huntsville seeks a qualified Household Hazardous Waste Manager to oversee operations at its drive-through household waste facility, the only one in Alabama. As a manager of three, you'll coordinate and oversee the collection, storage, transportation, and disposal of household hazardous waste and very small quantity generators of hazardous waste. You'll develop and implement program policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and maintain appropriate documentation to meet environmental regulations. Additionally, you'll help raise community awareness of the types of waste that don't belong in the blue bins and educate the community about the ease and location of responsibly disposing of those items.

As a Household Hazardous Waste Manager, you'll enjoy a balanced work schedule. You'll work Monday-Friday with a one-hour lunch each day, building comp time for every hour after 40. Occasionally, you'll be required to work weekends for special events, ensuring you're prepared for the occasional extra commitment.

To succeed as Household Hazardous Waste Manager, you'll need a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university/college in industrial hygiene, environmental science, chemistry, environmental engineering, chemical engineering or a closely related field and at least two years of full-time experience in Household Waste or other waste program and in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local hazardous materials. A 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) and a CPR/First Aid certification are strongly preferred.
You'll need excellent oral and written skills and proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and database software. A valid driver's license is required.
