We are a private, nonprofit striving to end homelessness by providing housing and services for adults with mental illness and other co-occurring disorders in Northern Virginia. We have an ACT Team (Assertive Community Treatment) providing comprehensive wrap around services in the Reston/Herdon area. This team is designed to support adults in obtaining and maintaining housing and in proactively addressing physical and mental health to reduce reliance on hospitals, ERs and jail systems.
We are seeking a highly compassionate and motivated individual to join our team in the role of Housing Specialist.
This position is responsible for assisting individuals with mental illnesses and co-occurring substance use disorders and a history of homelessness to safely transition into and maintain permanent supportive housing.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Successful candidates for this position will use a unique combination of skills in support of individuals maintaining successful housing by meeting leasing, community, and tenancy requirements. The Housing Specialist will assist with engaging individuals at various stages of change through outreach, and provision of housing supports. Targeted supports provided may include, assisting tenants during the move-in and lease signing process; conducting monthly unit inspections; and assisting tenants with completion of leases and income certification. The position is part of an interdisciplinary clinical team.
Job Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree, basic knowledge of Fair Housing Law and landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities, ability to travel, sometimes daily, in local (Northern Virginia) area. Proficiency in MS Office application, a valid current driver’s license and own dependable vehicle are also required. Must be able to pass a background check and a driving record check.Preference is given to candidates with experience locating and/or leasing units for individuals with disabilities, and/or experience working with individuals with serious mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders or other disabilities and/or individuals who are bilingual in Spanish.
