Requirements
- Master’s Degree
- Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12.
- Minimum of three years of successful administrative experience
- Minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience
- Strong managerial and organizational skills
Essential Job Functions
- Plans, develops, organizes, implements, and supervises the division special education program.
- Assists in the development of Board policies related to Special Education.
- Coordinates the maintenance of all reports related to the Special Education Program.
- Supervises record-keeping for special education students with particular attention to confidentiality and completeness.
- Coordinates, assigns, supervises, and evaluates central office staff members assigned to special education.
- Supervises and administers placement procedures for students with special needs.
- Collects and audits all attendance and enrollment data required for October student count report and determines student/staff ratios, and reports data as requested by the Virginia Department of Education.
- Coordinates preparations for Virginia Department of Education’s Federal Programs Monitoring Review, related to special education.
- Assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of the division’s Annual Special Education Plan.
- Approves requisitions for instructional materials and equipment related to special education.
- Recommends teacher assignments for special education in cooperation with the principal and central office staff.
- Attends workshops/conferences related to assigned responsibilities.
- Coordinates services with other agencies.
- Monitors the supervisory and accountability structure for district Health Services.
- Oversees the Patrick County Adult Education program.
- Performs other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Division Superintendent.
