Job Title: Special Education Instructional Coach General Description: The special education instructional coach is responsible for working with special education teachers to support best practices in using data, providing analysis of trends and needs and making recommendations for next steps in collaboration with principals and the Director of Special Education. The coach will support teachers with designing and implementing strategies that meet the learning needs of students with disabilities. The coach will act as an advisor to teachers and principals by providing support to deepen knowledge of special education throughout the division specifically in the areas that focus on the referral process, timelines, writing and implementation of IEPs and measuring student progress. Requirements
Minimum of five years successful special education teaching experience
Master’s Degree preferred
Virginia teaching license with a special education endorsement
Recommended leadership and supervisory experience
Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
Strong communication skills to share research-based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring, and coaching
Strong organizational skills
Strong knowledge of special education services, requirements and timelines.
Reports To: Director of Special Education Essential Job Functions
Provide individualized, classroom-based support to teachers with meeting the learning needs of students with disabilities. This will include modeling of best teaching practices in providing interventions.
Work with principals and teachers to analyze and utilize data to inform instruction.
Provide ongoing professional development based on teacher, building and division needs. This will include attending and facilitating both school and division-wide professional development sessions.
Model lessons, guide in conducting meetings and make suggestions for improvement within the department of special education in schools on a daily/weekly basis.
Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
Assist teachers with planning and writing IEPs, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of students.
Assist teachers in their Professional Learning Communities.
Assist principals in analyzing and interpreting test data with teachers.
Assist teachers in using data to focus on specific student needs.
Serve as a liaison and communication link between district special education staff and the school.
