Paxton Ministries is Hiring a Medical Technician Near Harrisburg, PA

Summary of Position:

The Medication Technician’s primary responsibility is to administer medications accurately and respectfully. This position takes direction from the Medication Manager and will also get input to assist with other tasks as assigned. The Medication Technician is also trained to provide direct personal care support to residents as needed.


Principal Duties:

  • Maintain current medication administration certification and administer medication accurately and respectfully on a daily basis. This position is expected to administer oral, topical, eye, and ear medications, as well as giving insulin injections.
  • Report any medication problems or errors promptly to the Medication Manager or the Resident Service In-Charge staff member.
  • Use phone, fax, and computer technology in a professional manner to perform required tasks as efficiently and effectively as possible.
  • Assist in monitoring residents’ physical health, checking vital signs as appropriate and communicating any resident health concerns to the Nurse or Resident Service In-Charge staff member in a timely manner.
  • Provide care in a manner that respects residents’ dignity and uses mental health recovery principles to encourage residents to develop their strengths and talents and set personal goals.
  • Provide crisis management and behavioral interventions as necessary, using a team approach to deal with difficult situations and documenting resident behavior issues.

Schedule:

This position has the following part-time schedule of approximately 24 hours per week:

  • Weekday Schedule: 4 days a week, decided upon hire - 6:15am 12:15pm.
  • Weekends: *Every 4th weekend (Saturday & Sunday) 6:15am 12:15pm *(pre and post weekend days off will be scheduled).
  • Holidays: Assigned to 1 of 3 rotating Holiday Teams. More details from Supervisor.


Professional Requirements:

  • Two years of experience working in a medical setting or medically-oriented Human Service agency. Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in providing home care, long-term care, and/or experience in a similar Human Service agency is preferred.
  • This position requires a committed Christian with a heart for working with mentally and emotionally challenged adults in a Christian residential care setting.
  • Driving a vehicle for business purposes is necessary for this position. That requires that he/she have a valid driver’s license, an acceptable MVR upon hire, and must at all times meet the guidelines in the Personnel Manual for an acceptable driving record.

Physical, Social, Emotional, and Spiritual Requirements:

  • Physical: Ability to accomplish the tasks associated with this position is essential, including standing for 6 hours, lifting up to 10-15 lbs. frequently, assisting in lifting 50lbs as needed, frequent motions including but not limited to pulling, pushing, twisting, kneeling, reaching above and below.
  • Social: Strong rapport with staff, residents, families, and professionals is essential.
  • Emotional: Skills of perception, understanding and caring for people are essential. He/she must be patient, calm under pressure, emotionally stable, and not easily-provoked.
  • Spiritual: In a visible role, this position requires spiritual insight, maturity and patience, which comes out of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Pray regularly for spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being of residents and for your own insight and wisdom.
