JOB SUMMARYTo work with students with language, speech, and hearing disorders under the direction of the Speech-Language Specialist to help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that may interfere with students' ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESWork cooperatively within the assigned classroomReinforce learning of material and skills using a variety of methods as directed by certified staffAide classes in language stimulationKeep accurate records in a format defined by the Speech/Language SpecialistSubmit reports to the Director of Special Services upon requestPrepare and organize materials for small group and individual instruction, based on individualized education plan goalsProvide individual and small group intervention sessions with assigned studentsMaintain effective communication with teachers, other staff, and parents when appropriateExhibit a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding students as is expected of teachersAssist parents in improving their skills in working with their child's speech and language delaysParticipate in the development and improvement of opportunities for exceptional students by providing individual or group in-service experiences for staff and parentsAssume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development by such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publicationsSeek assistance should emergencies ariseRepresent the school district in a positive mannerKnow and follow school district policy and chain of commandPerform other duties as assigned
