Description

PCSI is looking for a Fire Alarms Technician in Ft. Knox, Kentucky! This position will report to the Electrical Supervisor and is based out of Ft. Knox, Kentucky.

Typical work hours will be Monday through Friday.

What You'll Do as a Fire Alarm Technician :

  • Ability visually inspect, troubleshoot, install and provide maintenance services and repairs on multiple different system manufacturers of electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products in accordance with manufacturers, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Uniform Building Code(UFC) standards at customer sites.
  • Tests initiating and signal circuits, detectors, and system transmitter and makes needed repairs.
  • Checks and records data from pressure gauges on suppression system storage containers.
  • Manage daily call activity and program system products, including networking and programming. Proactively assist customers with all questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software / systems programs, schematics and operational product manuals.

Technician must have an understanding of requirements in accordance with local, state and federal codes, guidelines and regulations.

Perform on-site inspection, testing, troubleshooting, repair and installation of fire alarm, suppression and releasing systems as well as associated devices in accordance with manufacturer.

NFPA, UFC, and industry standards.

  • Responsible for reading and understanding assigned project documentation and work orders including scope of work for inspections, and determine if additional information is needed.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of integrating a fire alarm system with HVAC controls, smoke management systems, elevator controllers, sprinkler / suppression systems, card access, security systems, etc.

Understand the specific arrangement and operation of a suppression system(s) and a releasing function(s) and be aware of the hazards associated with inadvertent system discharge for the purpose of inspection, testing and maintenance.

  • Be able to effectively utilize required testing tools including suitable multi-meter, hand tools, printers, etc.
  • Prepare associated inspection and repair documentation paperwork and forms for customer service activities. Return completed documentation required for master customer file, future inspections, service, accounting and payroll in a timely manner as required by procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need to Be Successful :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successfully pass pre-employment drug / alcohol screen, background check, and motor vehicle report.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain secret level security clearance, including a NACI check.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to be an insurable driver by the Company.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations and have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and tools weighing up to 50 lbs. Perform work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment, working in ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.

Most work is performed indoors; some site work conditions are similar to typical construction projects.

  • Functional knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Fire Protection Information Management systems.
  • Able to effectively read, write, and speak the English language.

Other Requirements :

  • Ability to pass criminal, drug, and driving screening.
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather as needed and be exposed to various dirt, debris, and odors.
  • Ability to work any time or day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
  • Possess valid drivers license and maintain good driving record.
  • If required, ability to obtain and maintain security clearance and base access to assigned site(s).
