DescriptionJob DescriptionPeaceHealth is seeking a Director Medical Staff Services for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position.
The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $48.66 – $73.00. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Job SummaryThis role is based out of Bellingham, WA and requires some travel, as it supports one Acute Care Hospital and three Critical Access Hospitals within the network. You will oversee and manage the daily operations of the medical staff office, with responsibility for streamlined operations, to meet the needs of the medical staff leadership and regulatory requirements. This includes monitoring or resources/ costs, processes, communications methods, and staffing.
Responsible for operational performance, quality, service environment and medical staff related regulatory compliance. Prioritizes work needed for required deliverables objectively. Determines how best to utilize resources to meet scope of work and goals. Serves as a liaison and promotes/maintains positive and collaborative rapport and effective communications between the medical staff, administration, and the PeaceHealth organization. Works collaboratively with PeaceHealth System leadership to assure Medical Staff Office (MSO) work is aligned with local network and system priorities and initiatives. Monitors compliance with regulatory entity standards, and medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations. Assures the efficient operation of Medical Staff Services including continuing medical education, institutional review functions, and provider/payor credentialing. Researches, develops and implements necessary systems addressing Medical Staff and organization needs.
Essential Functions
  • Manages daily MSO activities and assures high quality functions and processes are in place to conduct assigned responsibilities. of Medical Staff Services including credentialing, appointment proctoring and reappointment and processes needed for the granting of clinical privileges and peer review.
  • Works collaboratively always to supports the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Medical Staff Leadership in their roles to oversee required medical staff functions, duties and responsibilities.
  • Assures compliance with DNV and regulatory requirements. Serves as the medical staff lead during DNV, DOH, CMS or other regulatory surveys and reviews. Provides ongoing education to the Medical Staff Office Staff and Medical Staff Leadership regarding anticipated regulatory requirements, process and policy expectations.
  • Develops and maintains teamwork essential for the effective and efficient operation of the department; organize and manage workflow through supervision of support staff.
  • Works collaboratively with the System Centralized Credentialling Office (CCO) and System Director of Medical Staff Services to manage the medical staff credentialling Verity database and provides feedback and participates in identifying opportunities for improvement as needed.
  • Develops and implements physician orientation programs for new and staff leaders and staff membership. Develops and supports medical education programs to meet physician needs.
  • Anticipates future needs and develops departmental budget and manages in fiscally responsible manner.
  • Serves as liaison between administrative/hospital staff and medical staff.
  • Regularly attends meetings and work session for system wide medical staff functions and activities with the other medical staff directors and stakeholders to participate in discussion around planning, prioritization, changes in workflow, forms, processes etc. to best meet the needs of the medical staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience
  • Required: Minimum of 7 years of experience within medical staff services field
  • Required: Minimum of 5 years of management experience
  • Required: Ability in problem-solving and decision-making
  • Required: Experience with credentialing software systems
Credentials
  • Required: Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) -OR- Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS)
Skills
  • Management skills to facilitate compliance with DNV standards and other regulatory agencies. (Required)
  • Ability to collaborate with physicians and all levels of management and public, sensitive personalities and confidential data. (Required)
  • Ability to prioritize workload, to work independently and delegate effectively. (Required)
  • Detail oriented and well organized. (Required)
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. (Required)
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office applications. (Required)
