Responsibilities:
• Prepare and make payments on time of monthly and quarterly Sales and Use tax returns (approximately 250 returns per month).
• Manage and maintain source data used in the preparation of the Sales and Use tax returns (store point of sale system, ERP accounting system and tax software).
• Validation and application of Monthly and Critical tax law updates on a timely basis into the tax software.
• Compute and prepare adjusting journal entries for Marketplace Facilitator rules on 3rd party delivery activity and adjust sales tax returns for sales tax paid by delivery providers.
• Responsible for tax account reconciliations and monthly journal entries specific to Sales and Use tax returns.
• Register Franchise Partners for Sales and Use tax collection and compliance.
• Act as a point of contact for state and local non-income tax related questions from franchise partners and others in the organization.
• Assist with state Sales and Use tax audits.
• Handle and resolve Notices/Assessments on state and local non-income tax matters.
• Assist and conduct analysis to support tax reporting and resolution of tax variances.
• Liaison with finance team, external and internal auditors and others for various tax reports and new demands.
• Continuous process improvement of internal controls and time efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• BS degree in accounting, finance or relevant subject
• Industry certification (e.g. CMA or CPA) preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of tax accountant or tax analyst experience, preferably in a corporate environment specific to sales and use tax.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
• Corp Sales returns preparation experience or other sales tax return preparation software.
• Basic accounting knowledge with account reconciliation and journal entry preparation experience.
• Keen attention to detail.
• Proactive, focus and efficient at managing time, priorities and deadlines.
• Extensive problem-solving skills, researcher and direct resolution with taxing authorities.
• Independent thinker with an awareness of when to seek assistance from others and bring matters of importance to management.
• Strong literacy with Microsoft Excel
