We are seeking a Health Communication Specialist that have experience supporting the federal government, commercial, and non-governmental organizations. Considered candidates will have the opportunity to support our nation’s public health initiatives through direct work with CDC.

General Duties:

Issues Assessment and Strategic Prioritization

• Identify news articles, stakeholder communications, position papers, press releases etc. that highlight emerging issues and trends relevant to CDC priorities
• Conduct environmental scanning and provide report on weekly basis
• Identify key issues that may serve as opportunities or threats to CDC’s top program priorities in support of the development of an overarching communications strategy
• Support the development of unit charters, blueprints and strategies that outline and advance CDC’s communications objectives
• Liaise with division branches, units and country offices to download their expertise to then develop, prioritize and lead communication efforts

Strategic Communication Planning, Messaging and Product Development

• Support the development and implementation of a proactive strategic communication plan
• Develop communications plans
• Create key messages and related trainings in support of over-arching proactive strategic communications plan
• Aid in social media activities including messaging development and execution using
• Monitor and evaluate effectiveness and reach of communication efforts and tools
• Provide high-quality graphics design, multi-media, photography, translation, and video services

Meeting Support

• Facilitate communications coordination including supporting the development of talking points and leadership presentations
• Provide professional photography and videography services

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Health Communications, Public Health, Health Administration, Social Sciences or a similarly related field
• 5 years of experience in Health Communications or Journalism
• Experience working at CDC in Health Communications preferred
• Previous experience working with public health principles and practices
• Experience using desktop publishing software
• Ability to keep abreast of current and new trends in health communications
• Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
• Ability to produce high quality deliverables in a fast-paced environment
• Ensure communication activities are based on accepted principles, methods, and best practices
• Experience applying social media marketing practices to mass communications
• Ability to plan, manage and coordinate health communication and marketing program activities
• Ability to translate and disseminate scientific information across a variety of platforms
