Job Summary

This position is in charge of leading the procurement team in developing and implementing procurement strategies aligned with Pegasus’ goals and objectives. The Director of Procurement will be responsible for managing vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, and building a strategy around cost savings and cost control. Additionally, the Director of Procurement will oversee the procurement process from sourcing to delivery, ensuring timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services in line with the production forecast while maintaining quality standards. Finally, the Director of Procurement will partner with Sales and R&D on new product development and the sourcing, pricing, and timely delivery of raw materials and packaging in line with internal commercialization timelines as well as customer demand.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build a routine of collaboration with the Central Planning team to ensure consistent alignment on raw material needs based on the production forecast.
  • Utilize the aforementioned routine with the planning team to stay abreast of any changes in the production forecast based on customer demand changes, production changes, maintenance challenges, etc.
  • Strategically develop and implement procurement/supply chain strategies covering all ingredient, packaging, and services to optimize cost savings and operational efficiency.
  • Utilize current cost models vs. product volumes to understand significant cost drivers and prioritize work-flow, managing materials savings initiatives in line with profit plan and overall business objectives.
  • Build proactive buy plans around Limited Time Offer (LTO) items and present them for review with the Pegasus Senior Leadership Team.
  • Collaborate with the Warehouse department on internal capacity and offsite storage needs
  • Identify and evaluate potential vendors and suppliers based on quality, price, and reliability.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with vendors to secure favorable terms and conditions.
  • Oversee the procurement process, including requisition, sourcing, purchasing, and delivery.
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues or disputes that may arise.
  • Develop or advocate for tools that will modernize and drive efficiencies the procurement planning process
  • Support the Sales and R&D teams by providing support for new item sourcing including new item samples, pricing, and quantities for plant trials.
  • Stay abreast of market trends, economic factors, and regulatory changes that may impact procurement.
  • Establish and maintain measurable performance metrics for all levels of procurement activities to include but not limited to tracking cost savings, supplier performance, supplier quality, internal order placement performance, buyer activity levels, financial (AP) performance, and material shortage elimination.
  • Lead and mentor the procurement team, providing guidance, training, and support to achieve departmental goals.
  • Build a roles and responsibilities matrix for the procurement team to clarify expectations at all levels and hold the team accountable to following through in their areas of responsibility.
  • Negotiate, evaluate, and implement vendor/supplier contracts that align with Pegasus’ goals and priorities
  • Work with the FSQA team on supplier approval documentation, supplier performance reconciliation, labeling, product spec matching, and vendor follow up as necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • 5-7 years progressive experience in Purchasing & Sourcing, with at least 2 recent years within the food manufacturing industry
  • NAPM (A.P.P. C.P.M.) or APICS (CPIM, CIRM) certification, a plus
  • Strong computer skills, ideally with experience using Windows-based PC programs
  • Working knowledge and understanding of ERP/MRP systems and their use in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter and high-energy
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, with awareness of deadlines
