THE COLLEGE

Located in the northwest corner of the United States, Peninsula College is nestled in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains. The main campus in Port Angeles, Washington, overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the nearby city of Victoria, British Columbia, and has easy access to the Pacific Ocean, Olympic National Park, and Seattle. Port Angeles is two hours from Seattle and a one-hour ferry ride to Victoria, Canada. The College is honored to serve six sovereign American Indian nations in the region: Jamestown S’Klallam, Lower Elwha Klallam, Quileute, Makah, Hoh, and Port Gamble S’Klallam.

The College is honored to have strong relationships with these six federally recognized Tribes in the College’s service district. The College is home to Longhouse of Learning. It is the first Longhouse in the nation to be built on a community College campus. The College offers transferable Indigenous language courses in Klallam/S’Klallam, Makah and Quileute and Hoh languages. Instructional programs include a Tribal Homeland Security & Emergency Management certificate and an Integrated Indigenous Studies transfer pathway. THE POSITION

Assistant to professional level human resource staff and management. Works independently under general supervision and within established guidelines. Applies specialized knowledge and uses independent judgement in resolving technical and paraprofessional problems and interpreting and applying human resource rules, policies, regulations or procedures. Reviews the accuracy of records, exercises decision making authority, and initiates corrective action within established guidelines.

This role requires outstanding planning, time management, and organizational skills. Superior attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines while juggling multiple requests is critical. Strong communication skills, experience with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) are essential for this position. This position is responsible for all steps from posting positions on job boards, initiating background checks, tracking and reporting on hiring status, and onboarding successful applicants into the college’s HRIS.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Recruitment

  • Participates in employment and recruitment activities such as screening applications, certifying candidates for vacancies, participating in job fairs and other outreach activities.
  • Prepare recruitment materials and post jobs to appropriate job board/newspapers/colleges etc.
  • Sourcing applicants using a variety of outlets; job boards, social media, professional and trade groups
  • Schedule interviews, to include contacting candidates and booking of meeting space.
  • Act as a point of contact and build influential candidate relationships during the selection process.
  • Act as point of contact for Screening committees
  • Process reimbursement paperwork for prospective employees.
  • Onboard new employees in order to become fully integrated.
  • Promote the College’s reputation and Guiding Principles.
  • Notify unsuccessful candidates on behalf of the hiring committee.

GENERAL HR

  • Analyzes and summarizes data and prepares reports using computerized and/or manual systems; coordinates the maintenance of computerized human resource information or other recordkeeping systems; verifies accuracy of records and documents adjustments; maintains confidential records.
  • Provide information, answer questions, resolve problems in the areas of recruitment, and HR related policies and procedures.
  • Enters and/or retrieves data from human resource information system or other computerized recordkeeping systems.
  • Respond to outside agencies’ inquiries such as verification of employment.

Other Work Activities:

  • Assist with related duties or special projects as assigned.
  • Reviews and ensures the accuracy and completeness of human resource documents such as salary records, and employee data forms.
  • Support general benefits.

Duties of the position require knowledge and experience:

  • Using an ATS and HRIS, and standard computer applications including spreadsheet, database, word processing, and email.
  • Interpretation, application, and communication of state and federal regulations and programs relating to employment and employees.

General Qualifications:

The level of skill required for the Human Resource Consultant Assistant 2 would typically be acquired with an Associate degree and two years of experience in a human resource or related setting.

Required physical abilities:

  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires standing and/or sitting and using computers and office equipment for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift approx. 40 lbs.

Required work schedule and work environment:

Position is normally scheduled Monday through Friday; normal hours of operation.
