Status: Part time, Non-Exempt

Salary: $17.00 /hr.

About Beged Kefet

Beged Kefet is a Hebrew Language After School program for students in kindergarten through high school. It opened in September 2008 in response to the local community's need and has been located at the OFJCC since September 2009. Beged Kefet's purpose is to teach the fundamentals and improve the knowledge of Hebrew throughout the four language skillsreading, writing, speaking and comprehension. In addition to teaching the language, we emphasize and incorporate learning about Jewish holidays and Israeli culture in our curriculum, as well as integrating family activities in the different grade levels.

Overview of the Role:

The role of the Beged Kefet Madrich (Assistant Teacher) is to assist the teacher in teaching Hebrew to students and develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. In addition, the Beged Kefet Madrich will take part in implementing a Hebrew curriculum that will focus on Israeli Culture, songs, literature, art and Judaic holidays and traditions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist the teacher in teaching Hebrew to students in class
  • Take part in executing lesson plans and lead games throughout the year
  • Attend Madrichim workshops and meetings as needed
  • Individual work with specific students in coordination with the teacher
  • Actively promote a comfortable and welcoming environment where every participant is treated with dignity and respect, in a friendly, personalized manner
  • Be a role model to children and staff by maintaining a positive attitude when interacting with children
  • Represent the OFJCC in a professional manner and provides excellent customer service
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management

Qualifications


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Be a high school student
  • One year of Hebrew learning
  • 1-2 years of hadracha
  • Fluent in Hebrew (speaking, reading and writing)
  • Comprehensive understanding of Israeli Culture
  • Cleared Background Check (Fingerprints, Child Abuse Index Check and Medical/TB exam)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate information clearly (written and oral)
  • Positive, upbeat and enthusiastic about working in a non-profit environment
