The Penn State Children’s Hospital is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one the Best Children’s Hospital across multiple specialties. As a designated Level 1 Children’s Surgery Center, the hospital is just one of eight in the nation, and the only one in Pennsylvania, to achieve this designation through the American College of Surgeons Children’s Surgery Verification Program.

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking registered nurses to provide high quality care to our tiniest of patients in our state of the art, fifty-six bed Level 4 NICU. Applicants can expect to care for premature patients, ill newborns and complex surgical patients. Special capabilities include: therapeutic hypothermia, high frequency ventilation, bubble CPAP, nitric oxide, various other respiratory support, ECMO and surgical services.

Duties and responsibilities include:

- Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating developmentally appropriate care

- Educating and supporting new parents on basic infant care including breastfeeding, hand hygiene and back to sleep

- Attention to detail in a fast paced and high stress environment

- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary team members

Certification is encouraged and financially rewarded.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse by State of employment

AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Neonatal, pediatric or critical care experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

Able to sit occasionally; stand constantly; walk frequently.

Able to lift/carry 0-10 lbs frequently; 11-50 lbs occasionally.

Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs occasionally.

Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly.

Able to use hand for simple/firm grasping.
