JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Engineering Ahead Program at Penn State Berks is a five-week summer academic enhancement program (delivered in-person/virtually) from Sunday, June 30th through Friday, July 26, 2024 at the Penn State Berks campus.
This program is designed to help incoming Engineering students succeed in their math and science courses this coming fall semester.
The Program Assistant (PA) position is an outstanding opportunity for engineering students interested in gaining leadership skills, enhancing their marketability, and developing relationships with faculty, staff and students.
The primary role of the PA is to support the Engineering Ahead Team in all phases of the summer program and assist with all program events. The PA plays a vital role in facilitating the adjustment of new, under represented engineering students to the Penn State community. All meal accommodations will be provided throughout the Engineering Ahead program; applicants MUST be available to work the entire Engineering Ahead program duration. The Program Assistants is expected to be present for the welcome ceremony.
The PA will lead the following activities:
  • serve as the primary mentor/supervisor to the participants;
  • attend assigned Engineering Ahead classes, tutoring sessions or other extra-curricular programs as needed;
  • accompany students on field trips;
  • assist the Program Coordinator and the instructors in all aspects of running the program.
  • possible living on campus during week 3.
The successful PA should possess the following attributes:
  • GPA > 2.50 and in good academic standing;
  • desire to work with students, staff and faculty; preference given to upperclassmen who are not taking classes;
  • good disciplinary standing;
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • integrity; leadership development potential;
  • positive attitude about self and Penn State;
  • problem solving abilities.
This job requires the following 3 publicly available clearances:
  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form
  • FBI Criminal Background Check
