We have an opportunity for a Design Manager to join our Manitowoc, WI team. You will be responsible for the creation of product documentation and managing the Engineering Change processes. They ensure conformance to applicable standards and codes, as well as company policy and procedures. The Design Manager works closely with project management, design teams and engineering management to ensure that projects are supported and completed in a timely manner. We are customer centric and are developing new innovative products that require an enthusiastic and dedicated teammate to help us realize our strategic initiatives.
You will:

• Oversee the day-to-day work of a team of experienced Designers/Drafters in the preparation of concept sketches, detail drawings, design models, and specification documents for product designs.
• Ensure design group tasks are completed on time and adhere to established specifications and standards.
• Be responsible for all product documentation via engineering drawings, specifications, and product structure in business ERP systems.
• Manage the Engineering Change process to ensure control of designs is maintained. This will require extensive knowledge of department processes.
• Assess engineering requirements and translate those requirements into technical blueprints, drawings, layouts, and simulation models using CAD/CAM/CAE software or by applying standard techniques to digitize, edit, and/or revise engineering documentation.
• Create digital prototypes, conduct design simulations to verify reliability/safety and optimize engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Product/Manufacturing Engineers by recommending changes to component designs based on the outcomes of the digital prototyping and design simulations.
• Document designs in accordance with established ISO procedures.
• Establish policies and processes to assure effective utilization of engineering talent.
• Evaluate existing products and make continuous improvements including cost and warranty reductions.
• Write Engineering documents such as Engineering Change Request's (ECR's), Engineering Change Order/Engineering Change Notice's (ECO/ECN's), Internal Shop Orders (ISO's), Prototype Part Requests (PPR's), etc.
• Be responsible for the selection and operation of all CAD/CAE software and hardware.
• Respond to, identify, and recommend solutions to manufacturing and quality problems.

Key Qualifications:

• Associate degree (minimum) in Engineering or Technology and a minimum of six years of experience.
• Knowledge of fundamental engineering design principles, concepts, practices, and procedures. Must possess a good understanding of design theory and the ability to read and prepare drawings.
• Ability to effectively lead, develop and manage a design team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• In-depth knowledge of Engineering design software.
• Working knowledge of a variety of raw materials, including plastics, aluminum, and stainless steel.
• Capable of using accepted formulas and manuals in making necessary computations to determine quantities of material to be used, load capacities, strengths, etc
• Have regulatory agency experience (UL, CE, NSF, ISO).
