People Architects is Hiring a HR Generalist Near Cleveland, OH

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History (CMNH), founded in 1920, is located in the heart of University Circle, five miles east of downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Considered one of the finest institutions of its kind in North America, the Museum offers an incredible visitor experience, attracting roughly 325,000 visitors a year. There are more than 140 public education programs and over 70,000 students served annually. The Museum employs about 160 people.
 
Building on its strong foundation of excellence in education and research, the Museum is poised to transform itself. The Museum will invite and engage a broader audience in the exploration of science and the natural world by revolutionizing the way it presents natural history. The Museum has launched a capital campaign to support a dramatic renovation and expansion of its facilities and exhibits. This ambitious plan will position the Museum to play a leading role in regional and national efforts to improve science education and increase scientific literacy.

Job Description:

The Human Resources Generalist will handle the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including employee relations, hiring and interviewing staff, benefits and compensation administration, leave of absence administration, compliance, new hire orientation, performance management, and general policy administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation)

  • Administer human resource programs, including but not limited to: compensation, benefits, ADA, FMLA, disciplinary matters, performance and talent management, employee engagement, and training and development.
  • Advise management in appropriate resolution to employee relations issues.
  • Respond to employment-related inquiries from employees and supervisors/managers, coordinating complex and/or sensitive matters with the Sr. Director of People & Culture. 
  • Provide guidance on disciplinary process and terminations.
  • Conduct HR investigations for all complaints alleging discrimination, harassment, unfair treatment, or other employment concerns; make recommendations to management regarding corrective action; coordinate with Sr. Director of People & Culture and legal counsel as needed.
  • Create/revise job descriptions and conduct wage surveys within labor market to determine appropriate compensation plans.
  • Recruit, interview and facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborate with supervisors/managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Conduct/acquire background checks and I-9 employee eligibility verifications.
  • Create and implement onboarding plans and new hire orientation.
  • Create and implement offboarding plans, including exit interviews.
  • Maintain physical and digital employee files.
  • Respond to worker’s compensation claims; prepare reports for OSHA and applicable insurance carriers.
  • Respond to unemployment compensation claims.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; recommend best practices; review policies and practices to ensure compliance.
  • Review, track, and document compliance for required training (ex: anti-harassment training).
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field with a minimum of 3 years’ experience. 
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance, including federal, state and local employment laws. 
  • In-depth knowledge of HR functions such as compensation, benefits, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, recruitment and general HR policies.
  • Proficient with HRIS systems and reporting tools, as well as MS Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, accuracy and deadlines. 
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
