People's Self-Help Housing Corporation is Hiring a Project Manager Near San Luis Obispo, CA

Description

Peoples’ Self-Help Housing (PSHHC) is looking to hire a motivated and experience Project Manager. Assist in the coordination of the acquisition. financing, pre-development, construction, and occupancy of new construction and acquisition and rehabilitation affordable housing projects.

With a mission to build affordable homes, with site-based services that offer opportunities to change lives and strengthen communities, Peoples’ Self-Help Housing is the largest nonprofit developer on California’s Central Coast. We serve low income working families, farmworkers, seniors and veterans and provide welcoming environments for those living with disabilities and for the formerly homeless. Along with building and managing beautiful and accessible neighborhoods in San Luis, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, we offer a broad array of programs to promote, health, education and connections to community-based resources.

Essential Functions

  •  Procure contractor and material bids for site work and home construction. 
  •  Prepare contracts and process invoices.
  • Facilitate procurement and project coordination with self-help housing construction and support construction supervisors in the field.
  • Track progress of self-help construction.
  • Coordinate the development process with other professionals, including architects, engineers, attorneys, contractors, lenders, title companies and government officials to ensure a high standard of quality is achieved at a reasonable cost.
  • Prepare budgets and cash flow projections.
  • Prepare loan and grant applications to governmental and private funding sources for project and administrative funding.
  • Prepare reports required by funding sources.
  • Assist to identify and acquire sites for potential housing developments.
  • Represent the corporation before public bodies, community, and neighborhood groups to promote PSHHC and its goals.
  • Actively participate in staff training and organizational functions and activities.

Skill & Knowledge Requirements

  • Understanding of residential construction as well as the ability and willingness to learn the self-help construction process.
  • Strong computer proficiency, specifically within the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook/Excel/Word) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Passionate about connecting with and supporting the residents and communities we serve. 
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to share information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • Proven ability to listen intently to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions when appropriate, and allowing others to speak without interrupting them.
  • Ability to work autonomously and remain focused on deliverables without constant supervision.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for increased efficiency and/or cost-savings by looking at the larger picture.
  • Demonstration of collaborative behaviors, including the ability to recognize contributions and praise people for a job well done.
  • Spanish language proficiency (verbal and written) preferred. 

Requirements

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in real estate/housing development construction is required, preferably for a non-profit developer.
  • Experience requesting and reviewing contractor bids and reading plans. 

Education Requirements

  • A degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field is desired. 
  • Commensurate and relevant experience in lieu of a higher education is satisfactory. 

License/Certification Requirements

  • Must possess a valid California driver's license and current automobile insurance.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to drive to and walk around self-help housing worksites. 
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
