POSITION SUMMARY

The individual in the Research Scientist position will create and develop novel formulations for the fire protection industry. The individual will collaborate with other functions in R&D to explore, test proof of concept, and produce novel products, and advance new technologies in the industry. 

The individual will also provide SME (subject matter expertise) and support necessary in technology transfer, product approvals, and process scale up for new firefighting foams.

The Research Scientist should be skilled in the conception and development of formulations of surfactant-based products for fire protection or with similar experience in petroleum, agricultural, pharmaceutical, personal care, HI&I, or related industries.

RESEARCH SCIENTIST RESPONSABILITIES:

• Proactively identify and bring opportunity for developing new value-added firefighting foam technology that meet or exceed our customers’ expectations and capitalize on market opportunities. Stay current on technology, events, and trends within the chemical industrial specifically related to surface science, foams, emulsions, and colloidal dispersions with the goal of maintaining the Company as a technological leader in fire protection.

• Proactively maximizing performance of firefighting products, maintain market leadership in terms of quality, value and performance. Benchmark our products against those of our competitors. Optimize product formulations with respect to minimizing costs while maximizing quality, performance, and consistency.

 • Participate in product testing and field trials for new products as well as reformulated products as required. Validate product performance meets project objectives.

 • Support the manufacturing and sales department with respect to special requirements for global product listings.

• Work with manufacturing personnel to ensure that new products are scaled-up successfully and that plant limitations/constraints are considered during the development of new or improved products.

• Assist in providing technical support and training to our sales staff, distributors, and customers as needed.

• Develop and implement new analytical test methods as applicable for product development purposes.

 QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering required

• Master’s degree or PhD preferred

• Knowledge of surface chemistry, foam, emulsions, and suspension stability required.

• 1-3 years of experience formulating/developing surfactant-based products or other specialty chemicals in a manufacturing environment.

• Strong scientific approach to product development along with technical, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
